Wondering if anybody has experience using the top of their climbing stick as a platform? I watched a video on YouTube of a guy (can't remember who) that was just using his climbing sticks as a platform. Seems like a good idea. Already bringing the sticks out to get to height, why not use them as a platform and save the weight?

I use a ring of steps in addition to the top of my sticks. I wouldn't want to use just the top of my sticks though.

I used just my stick last year. It’s doable but not ideal. I had to draw a line on how much $ I could spend at some point though. This year I ditched the sticks entirely for cranford rope steps but wish I had found the naider/swaider system before I purchased them.

I used a ratchet strap right at my top standoff so that the stick didn’t move around to much. This was my biggest problem before I put the strap on. Without it you can’t travel around the tree, or at least I couldn’t, because it seemed like the stick could kick out on me. I was also using the single stick climbing system. Other then that make sure your wearing good hard soled boots or your feet will drive you out of the tree. Sometimes a well placed branch or two at hunting height helped and worked as extra places for my feet. I had one tree in particular that I seemed to go to more often because it had this situation.

The first season I had my guidos web I used the top of a muddy stick. I don't think I could do it in any other saddle. But I could just dangle my legs with that when my feet got tired.

All you can do is try it. Some folks are a lot tougher than others haha

I agree. I use a swing so I was able to let my feet hang if they got tired. This may be why I gave up the sit drag and leaning and built the swing....

Thats my go to setup with sticks, i just set 3-4 ameristeps at same ht as top of stick & it works well for me. I used to say they are way lighter than platforms until I held a Predator.................... pretty close. yes definately doable, i have 4 LW sticks w moveable aider. I never really had issues w/ that stick moving much at all.

Anyone use the Wild Edge steps as a platform? Just bought a pair along with the Hawk Helium sticks.

That's how I plan to hunt this year. I do have two crandford screw in steps as supplements if needed.

There are threads about stirrups and climbing with them on here. They work good but the aren’t platforms.

I put one on top of my lone wolf stick. I found it a bit hard to climb around the platform to get my feet on it, especially during cold weather with lots of layers on. It was also a little noisy if you accidently dropped the platform down from the upright position. In the end I scrapped it and now have a LW stick with an extra hole in it.

It can work, it just wasn't for me. Hope that helps.

I tried a new muddy pro top step as a platform and it was terrible. The top step rocked and was not far enough of the tree to let my toes hang of like I wanted.

Last year I used the top of my hawk helium stick as a platform. I kept my boots parallel with the top step and found it comfortable. Longest hunt I did was 6 hours. I used a sit drag and rock climbing harness. Boots were Bogs rubber boots (Canadian version of mucks eh). I'm primarily a leaner.

Did you doctor up the heliums or were they pretty sturdy as is?
