I wanted to say. I hope everyone wheres some kind of eye safety out in swamps marshes thick areas etc.
i went out in marsh yesterday and got a cattail in the eye. Couldnt even open one eye. Pain was like torture all day.
I really dont know how i made it back to truck then drive home. Went to urgent care and i have 2 scratches on cornia and im out of commision for a few. So guys bring and wear eye protection scouting. Be safe. You need eyes to hunt.

Not just in the swamps. You never now when in the woods you can get debris in the eyes also. I wear glasses, could not tell you how many times I got hit in the face scouting in the thick stuff. Good eye protection is a necessity.

I always end up walking through spider webs in the dark and then get concerned for the next 10 feet or so that the spider is somewhere on my face. Cattails are bad too. Sorry to here about this!

Glad you are OK, and go Eagles! On the safety glass front, my buddies used to make fun of me because i always wear a cheap pair of yellow safety glasses from the time i leave the truck till i get back in it on hunts. I started doing it because it makes deer stick out way better in the woods, but the added benefit of sticks in the eye is a bonus. Here is a super deal on some like i wear... https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00U...ebp_QL65&keywords=yellow+safety+glasses&psc=1

Spiders are the worst. We have Yellow Orb Silk Weavers, aka "Banana Spiders" down here real bad. I can testify that yes, they do bite, and yes, it does hurt. Worst part is that I haven't developed any noticable super-powers yet.

I carry a fiberglass surveying rod when scouting as my "spider wand." :)

Great post. No one thinks about eye safety until they get popped in the eye by a bug or branch etc. I was scouting last week and was bushwhacking through some heavy stuff when I remembered that I really should be wearing safety glasses.

Glad your fine. I have a scar on my cornea that goes across my pupil. I can’t tell it’s there unless I’m looking through a scope above 12 power. All it takes is a tiny scratch to ruin your day. I personally get a headache wearing yellow lenses. I might could get away with it in low light conditions but not when it’s bright out.

Glad your eye is getting better. I know how painful that is. I was scouting a really thick area this past fall and had a branch go right in my eye (and I wear prescription glasses all the time). I could barely open my eye for about 3 days after that. This isn't the first time I had that happen either. I am now getting a pair of prescription safety glasses with side protection. I really don't want to go through that again.

I was going up a muddy hill slipped and a stick hit the white part of my eye
I was lucky

I was doing yard work years ago and was at the edge of my yard and turned around and got poked in the eye with a branch. My cousins wife is an eye doctor and she told me to go to the emergency room because plants have a lot of bacteria and your eye could get infected. I had to put antibiotics in my eye and we are a patch on my eyes for 2 days. Be careful with your eyes.

A couple of points.....all those little sparkles you see in the beam of your headlamp are spider eyes and there’s 10 million spider on earth for every human.

Had that happen to a friend of mine dragging a pig out of the woods..... Never thought to wear eye protection when dragging animals out much less scouting....
