Thermacell?

Literally no way to hunt early season without them in the Arkansas river bottoms.

I’ll 2nd this. I haven’t noticed any negative reactions to a thermacell on my hunts so far. I have been busted because I was moving nonstop because I couldn’t quit swatting at those little devils that kept buzzing around my head.

Here is a helpful tip. After you lite your thermo cell, get some green leaves off of the tree your hunting in or nearby. Place on top of the grate of the thermocell (not inside were the pad is). It will help mask any odor and smell like whatever tree your in. We have lots of pines, so I get green pine needles. It gives off of a pine aroma
Cool tip

I hunted this morning and afternoon without and much to my surprise, it wasn't too bad. We don't have them quite as bad as some places. Thanks for the input, everyone.

I had one going the other night bear hunting but still had mosquitos getting me.... Maybe they are becoming immune... Guess all good things must come to an end

Sometimes if the thermacell is old, got wet or u been dropped from treestand a few times they won’t heat up as much and put off enough repellent

Also old ones will sometimes stop heating and u have to reignite it

For me, usually if skeeters are getting thru then the thermacell isn’t heating properly or conditions are too windy

I just bought one last week. We have a huge problem with EEE in my area and I can say without any doubt this thing works and works well. I have a Skeeter Vac on one end of my pool area and nothing on the other. I set up my thermacell and let it run for 1/2 hour on the other end of my property and the mosquito`s left shortly after I turned it on. Previously I couldn`t count how many were biting me. It says on the literature its effective for 15 feet . I`m not worried a bit about the deer smelling the thermacell . My two labs were noses up at about 5 feet looking for the unit.

The thermacell is an absolute primary hunting gear item until the first frost here in Virginia. No bug suit or spray will keep them away better then the thermacell. Some of my early season spots I use a small pop up blind just to keep the bugs out, and still cook the thermacell.

Soon they will have pads that put off deer scent or a device like a vaporizer with acorn flavor and other scents common with deer hunting. With hunting catching on with urban hipsters, I cant wait to hear about the first citysouthern that mistakes this said device with his vaporizer and takes a big o hit of tarsal gland.

I take my chances with them smelling it. I’d rather them smell it than see me swatting these bat sized mosquitoes here in NC every two seconds. I try to hunt the wind and play the thermals so hopefully that helps.

Thanks for sharing the vid on refilling them @SloMo. Isn't the "check valve" he removed basically the flashback arrestor to keep a spark from igniting the whole cartridge? Maybe not, I have no idea since I've never taken one apart. I'll try the refilling but probably put them far enough away I don't turn into a campfire hotdog.

I usually always use one in northern Minnesota since the mosquito is our state bird. Its cooling off early this year ( which i am extreamly excited about) so i dont think ill need to fire it up but early season i will not go without it im my pack just in case!!
I have the green carrying case for it and can strap it to a tree limb. Ive never noticed any deer spooking from it personally.

After just starting bow hunting the last couple of years I do not leave home without my skeeter cell.

I was watching a buck tonight and the wafer started smoking really bad. I was thinking I was going to get busted with all the white smoke! He was too busy trying to rid the world of soy beans luckily

I have noticed a smell in the woods that smells a lot like a thermacell so I don’t worry about it. Either that or there are a lot more people in the woods than I know about....

I would not be able to bow hunt without it. That said, I have never killed in bow season. I think that is more about me than the Thermocell!!!
