Got a go pro session for Christmas( early!). Doesn't seem to be able to do the job....no zoom so you can't see anything past 10 yards? Should I return it or is there someway of using it to record a hunt ? Help...

I don't have that model, but the go pro cameras are wide angle cameras, so they aren't great for filming a hunt. They are good for having another camera angle that is focused on the hunter, or even placing somewhere at ground level.

I thought you could change the focus or possibly aspect to make it not look as far? I had one and had a kill at 10 yards that looked like 30 yards. I fiddled with the adjustment and made it look closer but I can't remember right now because I sold it.

I sold mine because I realized I didn't have enough experience and success as a hunter to keep self filming after ruining several opportunities for deer.

Redsquirrel is right. There is no zoom or focus on the go pro cameras. I have the session. It's great as an action camera, but not so much as a traditional camera.

Thanks.....think I will use it like Red suggested.....use it on the ground or focused on the hunter.

On there hero 2 that I have, you can change the mode to a narrow field of view, but this is still very wide for filming a hunt.

You can put them in "Narrow" or "Medium" FOV.

I've been using one mounted on my head, and one on my stabilizer, but there really isn't any replacement for a camcorder mounted on a camera arm. Also - the GoPro software allows you to zoom in on a selected area. This works really well if you're shooting in 4K, so by the time you zoom in to a level that you want, you can be in regular 1080.

I used to just film with the gopro to relive my hunts - but now that I'm putting them online, I need to run a regular camera.

You can check out some of my videos here that were shot with all gopro: http://www.theurbansportsman.com/videos

Changed the settings and will check out the soft ware on my computer. Thanks for all the advice. Nice video!

I changed mine to "narrow" field of view to see what kind of difference it made. It was noticeable, but it's still not anything close to a camera with a zoom. I changed it back to wide. I like the look better.

I agree....hope I can download the gopro soft ware on my desk top and see what happens.

You can zoom in on the desktop software really easily. There are some videos on YouTube that show it step by step.

THANKS.....getting excited to go hunting and film it!

I use a mounting bracket on where the stabilizer screws to mount my iphone. Which you can zoom as well as see what you are filming. I got one kill on it 2 years ago, but nothing since. The quality will be much better now that I no longer have the iphone 4. I will try to post it to youtube and add a link here for you to see. Not the best, but it worked and I was excited. Bad shot, spined him.
