What is the best saddle option to purchase for a guy getting into this for the first time? Long time climber and hang on hunter, looking to be lighter and more mobile. I’ve got a sit drag and harness to do a DIY set, but I think I’d rather buy one that I know is reliable and safe. I’m 5’10” and 170lbs.Thank you

how many sits have you done with your sit drag?
None, I haven’t made a saddle. I bought one to potentially do a diy project. The more I thought about it, I decided I’d rather buy one already put together from a reputable manufacturer

I really like my Trophyline Ambush Pro. Had a Tethrd mantis as well, and sold it. I really liked it but between the two I preferred the Pro.

I used mine for a season. Kept thinking I needed a commercial saddle, but wait times and cost was nuts. Finally just did it and it was super easy.

My suggestion is to just get in a tree and see how you like it if you haven’t already. You’d be surprised how comfy they are. With a RCH there should be no safety concerns.

Of course it’s your decision, but to be honest there is not a ton of difference between what I have now and the sit drag. It does have some bells and whistles the sit drag does not, but comfort level are not night and day. Everyone is different though.

Currently is an H2 btw. Have tried the ambush lite and Mantis.

the answer is YES to all of them, there are a whole lot of folks on this site whose o opinions i really respect and pay attention to. Almost to the person ,they all use a different saddle. So you have a bunch of killers using different tools, kind of like what's the best bow, rifle, pack, saddle, kayak, climbing method etc.
If you have the money to throw at it,do it,if you don't like somebody on here will buy it from you.

I am still using a sitdra g mod, may buy a saddle in the spring or may buy a kayak. I read EVERY saddle review, today I want a Flex tomorrow a H2, then a Treehopper... Don't think you will make a bad decision on any commercial saddle. Of course there are plenty instructions on making a great sitdrag too:) or a double sitdra g

That’s how I feel right now. Researching them and I want whichever review I just read and/or watched...

Nobody can answer this question besides you. It’s going to take trial and error. That’s the worst thing about getting into saddle hunting. The “OTC” products help but IMO they really just get you in the game.

I second every suggestion made so far. There is no best saddle option... whatever works for you is the best for you. Why don’t you try the sit drag on the ground first? Play around on ground level to get a feel of “hanging on a tree”, then take it up with the rch to be safe. When I started, I did so with a sit drag/rch combination, then found a commercial swing set seat for adults which showed me where I like to have my saddle to support how I like to hang for a while in comfort. There are so many moving and individual components to saddle hunting, you have to use a tree in your back yard and play around. Don’t do “read only” research.

I purchased the aero hunter because of my experience with the other new tribe products. Sizing correctly is the most important thing besides safety. I was tempted to buy a Tethrd mantis, but the briars here seemed like it would eat up the saddle. I also own a saddle that is no longer made... that I love because of the comfort, (it’s heavy)

The JX3 hybrid is the best saddle in my opinion. You can use it for ground hunting, tree hunting, and hunting out of a blind. Also when you are sitting in a tree it is as comfortable as anything I've ever sent him. I also have a trophyline and had a aero Hunter but I still like the JX3 hybrid the best
