Wild Edge with webbing?

Completely new to this saddle business... Searched the site and found lots of info on replacing the WE rope with webbing and a metal cam buckle, with several variations.

Anyone using tubular webbing alone, no buckle?

I have tested webbing only with a double overhand loop on the left side, webbing around the tree and then tie a standard WE knot to the other side. Seems to work better than stock WE rope for me, but wondering what I am missing? Maybe nothing? (Yes I have stretched the WE rope for days...)

It sounds like some people will prefer the webbing conversion over the WEI ropes, but I personally get absolutely zero movement on my steps once they are set! The full length of rope needs to be stretched though, I only had about 3" of tag end when stretching them. I also had it out for a week and re-tightened them once during that period...

Personally i haven’t seen anyone swap out the WE rope for webbing. The knock off steps have the webbing but I think that’s one of the down falls of them

Anyone know what size the wild edge ropes are? 3/8", 1/2", 5/8".....? And how are the step end loops spliced in?

I'm not sure on the size but I do know they sell replacement ropes. I'm sure they include instructions on how to splice them in.

I think Peter1234 had swapped out the rope on his for webbing. He uses a cam buckle. He posted some videos on it as well.

Where the skys are so blue!
I don't know of anyone other than @Peterk1234 that has swapped the WE ropes for webbing. The Primal steps come with webbing and a cam buckle and I know a few people have cut the buckle off and tied the WE knot with webbing. I think maybe @fbwguy does it that way and maybe @Nutterbuster had a video about it?
Not me. I always used the original wild edge steps and their rope. Never had an issue with the attachment method.

I bought 8 primal steps. First use with the straps and buckles and I don't intend to keep them. I want to put rope on them. They're bulky and clumsy.

I got 4, they are noisy, the buckles are cumbersome, and I feel the extra weight is unnecessary. The straps are the same diameter as the squirrel steps with the same buckle, but that is put up at height if needed only.

I cut off the short strap and removed the buckle from the long strap. Tie the WE knot no issues without having to replace with rope. There is no bulk and silent

I may try that later today and see how I like it.

I think even he did it though just for attaching the steps. There really isn't any benefit other than better attachment for the steps.

I have done the webbing mod to my wildedge steps and thought it was great. They cam over very tight and easy but getting the metal buckles together was a pain. took the suggestion of just using the long piece of webbing without any buckles and tying the wild edge knot. And this is perfect for me easy to get the knot done with webbing and it cams over nice and tight first time without needing to adjust the knot.

Plus it is a weight reduction and no more metal buckles to possibly clank together. It is a game changer for me since I hunt 99% state land.
