Fill a five gallon bucket half full or so with crushed berries and water. Add sugar (more will make a stronger mash, I usually do a couple pounds) with a quart of water per pound of sugar. Don't go higher than 4/5 full. Add wine yeast, and put on an airlock. Let it ferment for two weeks to a month, it's done when it stops bubbling and tastes bitter. Run it quick through yer pot still, toss the heads and tails. Dilute back below 40% (or just add to a second bucket of mash) and do a slow slow spirit run into pint jars. Toss the heads again, combine the good tasting pint jars into a glass jug, and start tuning yer banjo.

Try some apricot if u like that taste....it be ready in a year... ussd to be a family affair when I was younger around Christmas...we never went wassailing....we vikings
That's interesting. Here the deer (and bears and birds) love the berries. As was stated above though the berries are mostly gone by deer season but the leaves from the bushes are one of the last green things in the woods here and the deer munch on them well into November. After that they'll eat the stems up until they head for the winter yards. Blackberries are one of my primary food targets when I'm scouting.
Dude you need to get a plant identifier app on your phone. “Picture this” is what I use. They keep trying to sell you premium but you can use it for free if you ignore those upgrade requests. You will be amazed how well it works!
We have a bunch of them in the fields where I hunt . They are American blackberries. Deer will eat almost anything and that includes meat . I seen them eat fish. Yes they will eat blackberries.
