Fourth Arrow Camera Arm Review

Rex arm by itself doesn't give much for reach. 2 and 3 segment setup shown for comparison.

I was thinking of two Rex segments but it would be too expensive to try lol. I'm sure I will just stick with it in stock form for now. It worked great last year

So it seems like the easiest way to use the extension is to have it locked up against the tree like the picture above. This allows you to place the base further away from you. On smaller to mid sized trees, you can pretty much move the camera to the opposite side of the tree and cover all your shot angles. That being said, without the extension arm, you can still reach most of those angles. The extension arm starts to give an advantage on larger trees when the standard two arm segments don't have enough reach to see on the opposite side of the tree.

Have you guys tested out the low light capabilities of this camera yet?
Red I shot this at 8pm in New York. Light was getting low in tree. I may have been better zooming out a bit but I was in a rush. The bad news is that I could not zoom in on the video app on the phone for the picture in a picture

Thanks for doing that. The main frame was pretty good for getting that late, definitely acceptable.

Bump. Is this still the camera arm of choice? You guys would recommend the carbon arm kit?

I have a carbon arm, stiff arm, and extension. The stiff arm is a little better if you have a heavier camera setup, otherwise the carbon works well.

I have the one from Fourth Arrow.

Ok, thanks! Just was doing some browsing and it looks like I'm not going to find one in the same weight range at a similar price so I'll probably try it out also.

I'm not liking that it is sold separately. But it does seem like the cats meow.

Small update on my mods to this arm now that I have a few hunts in the books.

As many know, I'm using a tiny OCB to tighten the arm to the tree quickly and quietly. However, I'm often setting up around limbs and the girth hitched loops weren't providing the necessary flexibility to adjust the position of the OCB on the tree. So I added feed loops to the base.

This works really well and the stealth strips keep things whisper quiet. Note that feeding through the top portion of the base doesn't work as it compromises the stability of the base.

Like many, I love the shoulder leveling system on this arm. It is simply amazing. But I hated the included tool. It was bulky, heavy, didn't transport overly well, and was the remaining source of unplanned noise during setup.

I've since moved to a stealth stripped Allen key tethered to the arm with D loop fed through the top hole, and tied to hole in the middle bracket. It's a fraction of the weight, compact, and whisper quiet.

It stores securely out of the way during transport using a stealth strip "pillow"

Bump. I swapped out the tool and went with adjustable loops to setup better around limbs.

Beautiful. What camera did you go with?

It's a Canon 6D, I've had it a couple of years already. It takes great video, but it won't auto focus while recording and it doesn't have a flip out screen. So not ideal, but I can't afford a different one right now with a new platform and baby #1 the way! I will need a fluid head tho, mine is pretty terrible.
