DIY Climbing Stick (1.5lb)

Got a quote from Protolabs. $150 per step for 50, lol. To be fair, they are a rapid prototype shop.

Yeah I've found protolabs to be fairly expensive for this type of thing. Your best bet might be to find a shop who can laser cut them for you. I can check with my local shops if you would like.

You guys should collaborate so you can start selling us parts kits Ernie!

Ernie has got the inside track on those machinists lol. This would be a super hot item especially if those two collaborate it would be a knock out of the park item.

Do you think laser would be the way to go? What about water jet for cleaner finishes? In either case, they'd both need machining as a secondary op. Then I figure bead blast and either anodize or cerakote in a flat earth color.

Is there a reason you milled the holes rather than drill holes the same diameter?

I was also wondering if one could use a1x1x3/16 angle for the steps drill some holes to lighten it up, knurl the top for grip?

Looks cooler. Also it's marginally lighter but probably not noticeable unless you have a precise scale.

It might work. It would be easy to try if you ordered some. It would probably be more prone to curling at the corners.

Honestly if I just simplified the cutouts to be holes, did some of the cuts with a bandsaw, built a template for the drill press, and only used the router for the channel, I could pound out quite a few of them much faster than currently. I'm literally just staring at my router dancing around for 45 minutes per step right now.

I think the amswer here is we all get cnc machines, could save a lot of money!

I wonder if that argument would work on my wife? I just built a foundry doubt I could get away with a cnc machine, lol

This weight is with 2 aiders with reinforced steps. A third aider would push it a hair over 6 pounds for 3 fully rigged sticks capable of 24' .

Water jet is actually better since it won't affect the temper or chemistry of the metal. I buy steel plates for long rang shooting made out of military steel that are water jet cut. So aluminum should be easy.

As far as finish goes, I agree they would look nicer, but I think most guys on here would rather save money and finish themselves. Stealth strips and spray paint allow for individual custom finishes.

That new Strata pattern is money. Blends so well with the bark on this tree.

Where do you get that stealth strips pattern, I didn't see it on the website

@bowhunter15 I watched your video- Great Job!!! The original sticks you referenced for the step I believe are the API Hunt'n stick at Bass Pro. As I almost bought the 3pk for 90$. Instead went all out on the muddy Pro sticks. Great video and let us know when pre order starts!!

Yes, excellent sticks and videos.. nice to meet you! I have watched many of your well thought out, articulate, and instructional videos. I cannot find those stealth strips in Strata... can you post a link to those? Thanks

I would think staged sized holes would look nice & be 45 times quicker than the router.

As others say, your work on DIY is incredible. Thanks for all you do.
