Knee pads or seat cushion

Yep the last 3 I bought didn't have cushions, had to buy separate 19.99, or 27 something, depending on which 1 you buy.

You could make something much better for a lot cheaper than that.

CharlieRay, knee pads, seat cushion or platform. either way you're still putting pressure on your knees at some point in the hunt. I don't have bad knees but after a while even with knee pads it can get uncomfortable and trying to stand the whole time get old real quick too. The kick stand is probably your best bet. Have you ever thought about trying a Guidos Web? The whale tail on it was a game changer for me.

I'll have to try and see what works best. I just bought a new Aero Hunter and really like it. A kickstand may be a good option for me.

I saddle hunt in pants that I purchased as an operator and they work well. Knee pads are attached to your pants , not bulky, and adjustable. They can be removed as well. I have found that normal knee pad straps can become very irritating over long periods of time. These are basically strapless and I am fairly certain you can find all types of camo patterns in these pants. Probably around 60-70 bucks.

TY. Those look like a good option.

Where can you get them, do you have a link ?

You can find them on ebay. They make pair , gen 3, that if not needed, you can remove the knee pads. I think around 60 bucks.

I have a pair of core4element pants with foam kneepad inserts you can add/remove as you like. They're super nice and definitely nice to have in the field. Alas they are warm weather pants and I don't wear them for deer hunting, but they are super nice for spring turkey and scouting.

I think sitka makes a pair with built in kneepads as well, but milspec pants will probably do the same thing except a whole lot cheaper.

I bought a pair of arc'teryx kneepads last year and they are (for me) the cats meow for kneepads. A little pricey but they are very low profile, super easy on/off, and don't slip/slide around like other kneepads. They are not as thick but the design helps alleviate pressure points and discomfort. If you don't mind spending a little extra money they are worth looking into.

I'm a new saddle hunter ....so forgive my dumb question. . When you're talking about using a seat cushion for your knees, how are you attaching it to the tree? Rope?

Easiest is a cam strap. I have a Thirdhand archery gear hanging strap that I use.

Good deal.
I have a thin cushion designed to sit on the ground with. I think I'll give this a try in lieu of knee pads.

Treestand cushions have built in attachment points. I have one from basspro and one from XOP.

I tend to hug the tree to rest though

AMP rubber knee pads from Lowes. I've found I use them for more than just saddle hunting. Anytime I'm ground hunting, they keep my knees protected and most importantly......dry.

I think you would be better off with the seat cushion or a kick stand. That and play around with your tether height. Some people can sit sideways with their hip against the tree. I can't but it may be worth a try.

Have you ever just contemplated on straddling the tree? I don't use knee pads instead I just slightly straddle the tree. Although I consider myself more of a leaner than a sitter I have not ever been uncomfortable or had any issues with my knees while hunting!

I rarely us either but I like the pad better of the two options. Either a noodle on a strap or a small treestand seat.

I've said it before but I think knee pads are a must. I'm sure the pad works but it's more to carry in. I put my knee pads on at the truck and I'm good to go.
