image.jpeg i was wondering if you guys that hunt out of saddles have tried to figure out a way to put yourselves away from the tree enough to avoid knee contact? I was thinking maybe two short, stout aluminum pieces with a bolt through one end to hindge, or two small hindeged plates. Kinda like this picture. It wouldn't have to extend very far to provide some relief. It seems doable, has anyone tried something like this? If it was held up by your tree rope and the lower piece had a pointed end or V to stick into the tree. It might complicate swinging around the tree but I think you could carefully stand and lift rope out of the channel and disengage lower end down to a vertical position against the tree. Would this work?

First thing to pop into my mind reading this was the cocoon hunting hammock. Not the hammock itself but the way it attaches. Then there is the whale tail approach

Take the XOP foam seat get a big bungie. Wrap the bungie around the tree and through the straps on the foam seat cushion until its snug at knee height and you are set and will be comfortable for all day sits.

I do this but take it a step farther and hook my linemans belt to each side of my saddle and let it hang below my knees. When I want to sit the LB holds my legs into the pad and it's very comfy!

Flinginairos I got the idea from you but made my on mods to it. It works well to have the big bungie to assist with different tree setups as well as making sure it stays in place with no noises.

This is basically what I do.. I'll take a look at attaching it to the linesman belt.. like the idea. plus there are trees that are too big for the strap I used for it. It's Comfy.. Call it Tree Padz (instead of kneepads)

Instead of a bungie you couldn't put a small rope and a prusik knot with a small carabiner. To where if you are on a 8" tree or a 30" tree it would work for either. You could use say a 1/4" rope and something a little smaller like nylon twine as the prusik.

I'm new to all this. This was just an idea that popped into my head as I was reading

I use the third hand strap, for anchoring climber stands, to hold my xop pad, in place. You can get 2, on amazon for 18 bucks.

An adjustable strap is more reliable. A prusik could slip down the tree when it isn't loaded (like a tether). I have used a daisy chain before.
I keep a daisy chain attached to my backpack and run it around the tree and clip it to itself for a gear hanger.
I just tied some paracord to the cushion and let it hang down from the daisy chain.

But most of the time I don't take a cushion.

I don't need it!! I originally got it when Ernie started making the platforms and it came for it. I tend to save on to things in case a future project calls for something. To be honest I do not have need for it since I straddle trees lol. Plus any pain and soreness I have is just weakness leaving the body lol. If you want pm me your address and you can have it!!
