Scent control regiment and FACTS about activated carbon

The reason I mention ScentLok is because they own the exclusive rights to use activated carbon in hunting clothing because they own the US patent for doing so. Prior to ScentLok getting into the scent control garment game there was nothing but field sprays with sodium bicarbonate and they simply don't get the job done in the slightest no matter what the hundreds of commercials state.

Concerning ScentLok coming out with garments in 2017 that are not entirely impregnated with activated carbon, that's true but they are only layering garments. All exterior garments and accessory garments are totally impregnated with activated carbon.

Some of the 2016 and 2017 Nexus under layers only have activated carbon in specific panels where odor is more of an issue. Those same garments do have Gold Alloy which is particles of gold and silver laced throughout the garments and they are natural anti-microbials. I believe that for 2018 SL will have a line of undergarments that are again 100% impregnated with activated carbon (and Gold Alloy) because I know they just came out with a lightweight piece a couple weeks ago.

For the record, I wear merino wool undergarments far more than ScentLok's undergarments and it's strictly because they are more comfortable. Merino wool has qualities that no other fabric does in that it is an insulator when cold out and in a thin layer piece, it keeps you cool when its warm and it does both because of the areas where merino sheep are raised.

No matter the undergarment, I ALWAYS wear ScentLok as my exterior layer. Take that back, in a hard rain I wear Rivers West as an exterior suit because ScentLok doesn't make a descent waterproof suit.

Hi John

I have a savanna suit I wear under other clothes when it is cold.

I spray the outer clothes with activated coconut carbon and water is that adequate. I don't want to spend $$$$ on more clothes.

I have a scentlok head covering and gloves too and spray my pack with the same spray. I have a room with an ozone Machine for my non scent lok gear as well

If you listen to JohnE latest podcasts he invokes the Rutgers carbon testing of SL to be able to adsorb up to 96-99% of human scent molecules produced in a 24 hr timeframe....x 10,000.... He also states that they found Blocker only 25% as effective as SL. That being said, SB should more than keep you covered if the science is accurate according to those #'s.

I see what you did there with all them numbers

I know you addressed this to John, but I gotta chime in that I have found activated coconut charcoal to be pretty amazing in adsorbing scent. I feel like I can make a scentlok garment out of just about anything with it and completely regenerate my real scentlok gear with it, too. The big drawback is that it is messy!!!!

I have tried that also and have had favorable " seeing deer and them not detecting hunter presence" results.

Wanted to ask again for insight. My wife uses pretty scenty detergent and dryer sheets for our regular clothing.I have my scent control clothing that needs regenerating in the dryer. Being new to using this type of clothing, am I okay to just throw it in the dryer to regenerate it, or will the scenty stuff make my scent control clothing smell? Should i try and clean the dryer before, or is there any tricks to doing this?

Your best bet is to run some towels through before you run your hunting clothes with your scent free detergent.

Wash and dry a large load of towels in scent-free detergent.

I think John E. addressed this in the second podcast that just came out n

Well I almost had my wife convinced I needed my own washer and dryer, but couldn't figure out where to put it.....

I have got our house to go to perfume and dye free detergents. I have a very sensitive nose and I just can't stand the added smell to anything anymore. My wife has also stopped using perfume and mostly stopped with scented lotions because I complain about them so much. Occassionally she'll still try to pull something off but she can't sneak it by me :p. She still likes to burn scented candles but mostly does that after I'm in bed now.

I guess that's what marriage is right? Putting up with each other's crazy tendencies??

I was lucky in that my wife is really 'plain jane' like that. She was the one when we first got married that suggested we use the scent and dye free stuff (she's a naturalist and one of those all-organic crazies) and also because her mother always used really strong perfumey stuff and she hated it. Honestly I couldn't imagine going back to scented detergents, fabric softeners, candles, etc... When you are around someone who uses that stuff or go into someones house that does it stinks so bad it's unbelievable!

The detergent my wife uses is all natural stuff, but has essential oils that creates a pleasant smell for your laundry. Maybe I can get her to go scent free also. Not a bad idea

We don't do candles either.

you can buy fragrance free dryer sheets. Take a couple of those and spray or soak em with some coconut-carbon/water mix. Then throw them in the dryer by themselves to dry a little bit (scared they would stain towels/clothes if they were wet). Then just keep them in there with the towels you are doing prior to your hunting clothes. Mabye even repeat the process for your hunting clothes.

I have no idea if this works but it seems like solid Bro-science

more that I think about it though. If your scentlok releases scent molecules in the dryer, it cant pick up the perfumes at the same time.
and if perfume molecules are still present in the dryer, then so are all the scent molecules that the carbon just released only to get reabsorbed when the temp dropped?
paradox
