Sorry if I missed it, but what do you use for lineman's belt attachment? The alpine bod doesn't have them, does it?..

I have a Treehopper LB with nice solid D Rings on it. I have also tied webbing with a loop on each end run through the available loops on the BOD and then tied on with loops of accessory cord.
You just take a length of webbing and put an overhand on a bight on each end and run it around the back.
 
I ordered the ripstop from the link you provided, and haven't messed with it yet (maybe tonight). Regarding pressure on the legs, I wonder if that could be taken care of with a little strip of closed cell foam fastened to the lower edge of the seat with contact cement. I guess it's possible that the ripstop could stretch some when weighted, but the foam should stretch with it. It wouldn't fold up as tight, but foam wouldn't add much weight and should make it easier to get into once in the tree. Thoughts?
 
I want to bump this thread up again. Has anyone worked on this more or have more feedback? Looks very interesting

It's pretty skinny for hanging in a tree :) But it's what Hammock people use. I can't remember the size. Not the thinnest one...

BUT I WEAR A SAFETY HARNESS! (sorry to shout)

It definitely works great. The trick is in getting the asymmetrical shape right so it supports your back and doesn't dig into your legs.
 
Bump again- I've hunted exclusively from a saddle for 10 years now and I'll say fellow saddle hunters that haven't tried this style are truly missing out! I've been using a RCH to ascend and for safety, but then settling into a fleece hammock seat once at hunting height. Way more comfortable, versatile, and less restricting than the old Tree Saddle and GW.

I never committed to a design. I might go back to it at some point though.
Climbing with a climbing harness is always going to be better than a hunting harness.
Then if you make something that is specifically comfortable and silent, you win there too.

One of the advantages to the hammock style design is that you can move the material around until you are comfortable.
Disadvantage is that you have to move the material around until you are comfortable :)

Some combinations of harness and hammock don't work as well because you have the gear loops etc being pushed into your body by the hammock.
 
You'd have to experiment. It becomes a sit drag pretty quickly at that point.
What makes this setup interesting is that you can stretch the material around you and spread out the load.
 
I've been making hammock gear for a few years now and this idea sounds great...could you have a quick look at the attached template/drawing for a question(s)? I used the dimensions for what you called your "small" version.

#1 - Am I in the right ballpark!?!?!
#2 - In yellow on the drawing, are you drawing it in a total of 2", or rather 2" from each side?

I’ll try to remember to look at it tonight (remind me).

If it’s not wide enough, the gathered ends will pinch you.

Making the hammock lounge chair is a nice project too. Just a short hammock and you hang the foot end lower. And I have a small under quilt for it too.
