This is very sad and an unfortunate accident
Not sure how it would have happened but I always thought what do I do if I drop my one stick while climbing so i took the little bungee off my summit climber and added it to my one stick and attach the end to my saddle. might go ahead and search for a longer bungee so so it has enough slack for the climb
could you post pictures of this? or explain how it works?i'd carry a 7/64 amsteel daisy chain as an emergency foot loop to get you down the tree as a last resort

This is really sad. I only considered dying by falling and taking every precaution to be safe.. Think I’m going to set up a foot off the ground this weekend with someone around and try to flip myself over in the saddle. Figure if I put myself in that situation on purpose, I'd be more prepared if it ever happens in real life.

Same here, doubles as a gear hanger too.i'd carry a 7/64 amsteel daisy chain as an emergency foot loop to get you down the tree as a last resort
I do something similar, but I’ve just always carried extra prusik loops with me. I’ve only ever needed it once but when I did it was a savior. Lost my one stick and was hanging. I climb on a prusik so the knot had cinched and I couldn’t get above it. Wound up tying that extra prusik loop on and running it down to my boot. Stood up in it and got above my tether prusik. I rappel on a Safeguard and at that point I latched in and removed both prusik and rappelled down. If I hadn’t had that other prusik with me though I don’t know what I’d have done. That’s an easy thing to carry.
