2017 Deer Contest Discussion

I am going out this weekend for a 1x2 cull buck. If I get him, that would count as my doe! Then again, if I can hunt my cousins place in a different county, I might be able to upgrade my buck! I have not been hunting in 3 weeks (that is torture)! If nothing else, I will get to hunt Saturday evening and Sunday morning! Time in the tree is very therapeutic for me. But you just look like a crazy person if you do not have a bow with you!

Yeah, I know you've been unlucky but hopefully this is some measure of demotion for you. Congrats!
Some of that luck was of my own creation. But I am still learning. Really this is only me second full season of hunting on my own where I scout and set up. When I started it was my uncle's place and they pretty much just told me what stand to sit in.

So.... How's the whole contributing to the team points thing going guys? Can I go snag a couple of does this weekend and superimpose other teammates faces over mine? Lol
If it is brown it is down. Our season ends Dec 31 and I have hardly any time to hunt. Tag soup is horrible

I am going out tomorrow, next Wednesday, then I am off work from Dec 16 through Jan 1, and will be hunting a majority of evenings then. I am highly optimistic of at least a doe, hoping for a buck.

Its been a good first year in the saddle for me, thanks for all the help along the way! This forum may have emptied my bank account but it has given me so much knowledge and advice! I was able to take a doe and 3 pt with my bow out of my Roadtrips leather Trophyline and then this morning I was lucky enough to be in the right spot! My first buck w a rifle in my saddle and my best rifle buck ever. I do not usually spend much time in the tree during gun season here in NY. This buck came in from in front of me, so the tree was between me and buck. He appeared out of nowhere like so many times the deer do! I let him close to 50 yards, push myself off to the side of the tree, thank you saddle, and let the 30/30 do work. Dropped him where he stood! Clipped the bottom of spine and turned one lung into mush. It has been a great season for me and I 100% attribute that to the saddle. It added a layer of interest to hunting that helped me get out of bed before sunrise! Also the wanting to upgrade my buck for team 7 was a driving force to get me to gun hunt. I usually hunt hard with the bow and sparingly with the gun if at all. I did spend the first 2 weeks of gun with my bow, but felt the need to expand my reach! Thanks again Saddlehunter.com!
