Because of the Date you encountered that buck and his actions of thinking with the wrong head will be difficult to see if that is his core area or if he is a traveler .

Thats a really big week that bucks can show up miles and miles from home but,
Its not impossible to locate him im sure he is around. Remember too that if he is still alive next year this buck will probably show up in the same area almost the same week.

What you could do this year is a bit of glassing and spotlighting anywhere you can to locate him.
Grab a coffee and take a ride of the surrounding areas of where you seen him.
he will show up im sure.
When you do locate him note everything.
Foods available, winds, weather ,
That buck is no dummy (outside of the rut).
bucks like this do become an obsession and if work is put in can be killed even though it may take a few years.
scout lightly with gear on back weapon in hand.
remember don’t just hunt to hunt him, make sure you hunt the area or sign that your pretty confident he makes. Make sure its super fresh.
I would not really sit over much rut sign because most of that is probably a frustration thing.
Look for his big tracks, scat, etc. if you spot him sometime mid December then you got him. You will know his core area and you can do what you gotta do to get on him even if it takes your pursuit into next season or beyond.
Please definitely keep us posted.

Thanks for the info.
If Dec does not work out, going back in March to scout for a few days. Wish this public was not so far away.

Neither. They arent running off or blowing or anything like that. Zero posture or alertness change. Lost count of how many were on trails that came within 20 yards of the tree and when they got 35-40 yards out they just veer enough to stay at that distance. Had a doe 2 weekends ago that got to 30 and fed around in behind a bunch of viney crap for 10 minutes and left going back the way she came from. I have no explanation and would almost rather have been getting picked or blown at, then there would be a definitive answer.

Gene Wensel talks about positive brain waves in one of his books.
Maybe you are putting out negative brain waves (I am going to kill this deer).
You could try a tin foil hat. LOL.

Is there a particular brand of foil I need to use? I mean if I need to I can grab a bottle of Tink's and a butt out tool too. I will hit one with the truck before I wear a flat bill though.

I would drink the bottle of Tinks (only thing it is good for) take a few shots of Wild Turkey and the negative brain waves will go away.
