What is the non motorized way to haul a deer out of the woods or swamp

Yeah, deboning directly off the carcass. I do the hams that way even when the deer is hanging. I need to do a video on that sometime.

Yea if you could do a video or find one that would be nice. It sounds like a good idea.

I already debone everything while hanging but I have always field dressed it first. I need to try this it just needs to be skinned differently not field dressed and not hung.
I am not sure why I could not do it in the field hanging on a tree A roll and lock pulley and a rope would work

Yep you sure could do that. I always gut them as well when I’m gonna haul them back on the atv simply to make them lighter lol. No other reason than that.

A sled
A hawk deer crawler... anyone tried this
Or anything else

I have a couple sleds that work well in cat tails.

Has anyone tried that Four wheels hawk cart
Easiest way I've found is to cut 'em up and pack 'em out. I keep a Ziploc bag with a Havalon Piranta, pair of latex gloves, leaf bag, and hand sanitizer.

NXT Shot Verscart
Love mine and it’s solid as a rock and quite.
Highly recommend it!

I use a heavy plastic to drag deer out. cant really remember where I got it but it is made to drag deer out and it work fantastic.... far better then dragging a deer out on its hide. You can see a pic of it in my recent video about last day

First deer I killed way back in, I carried out over my shoulders. Now when I think about it, I was asking for a hunter to shoot me.

Older and wiser now.

I have a Deer Cart.

I worked with a guy who hunted WV public land. He would bike in miles. If he killed anything, gut it and slide the seat in and strap legs up. Stand it up and walk out.

I still carry them over my shoulders. especially when climbing steep hills. once on level ground cart is king.

If the regs allow, I would rather skin and process on site.

If it's more than a couple hundred yards on the flat I pack out my animals. I hunt steep mountain gorges sometimes a few miles in. That's what drew me to saddle hunting. Cutting weight of treestand allows more meat on your back, and less trips. Buy a quality frame pack and you won't drag a deer again.

Agreed. I've tried sleds and carts but if you are in the timber or on any kind of mountain ridge it's more work to try and maneuver them around then it's worth. They are great for flat or grassy areas but I've gone back to the good old fashion pack out. By the time your done it saves hours to leaving the woods, coming back and wiggling a cart between trees and rocks.

I have been packing out deer in the mountains for more than a decade in a large Alice pack(tactical tailor kidney pad) and construction grade trash bags. I have about $90 in the bag. Always point the leg bones up so you don't get a tear in the bag and have leakage. It is almost as fast a normal walk out of the woods and you can easily cross creeks. No way I could use a cart in most of the places I hunt. Another benefit is not having to find a place to dispose of the carcass after I get home. The coyotes and bears do that for me the natural way. I also don't hang the deer to skin it. As I skin the deer I use it's own skin as a tarp under it to keep the leaves off the meat. I have found it is actually faster for me to skin the deer on the ground.

Anything solo over 400 yards gutless method and backpack is the way to go. I've struggled with carts a few times and apparently they work better for everyone else than they do me. I'd rather drag than struggle with one of those things through the woods.

Agreed. I own a cart that I haven't used since the first time I tried it around 10 years ago. It makes for nice wall art in my basement. And yes, I forgot to mention the gutless method. When you are 2 miles in the middle of nowhere the last thing you need to do is to gut a deer. Every single time that I have cut myself skinning a deer is during the gutting process. I leave the guts in when I'm in the backwoods so I don't accidentally cut myself gutting the deer and bleed out on my way to the truck. I can just see the news articles on the Huffington Post now. "Table turns on Evil Hunter of innocent deer when he accidentally knifes himself." Then all of the hippie comments would follow like "Got what he deserves, bet he had an AR16!"

I don’t know what I would do with out my cart.
I guess I would be out in the woods skinning and quartering deer. I’ve done it a few times and i thought it was terrible. I came out of the woods a dirty, bloody, sweaty mess. I had to wash all my Scent loc. Wasted about half a day. Missed the evening hunt.
If I was out West, several miles from the truck I would find this more appealing I think

Two wheel game cart bought from Cabels years ago. One of the best buys I've made. Have hauled sticks, stands and packs in and deer out. Modified it slightly and am able to attach it and haul it behind like a trailer behind my bike. Well worth the $$.
