Live from the tree 2017 version

On a ridge finger next to a creek and 100 yards from thick pines that butt up to mature pines and some hardwoods. Forgot my Doyle’s hoist and knee pads but that’s an improvement over last weeks gun aerobatics. It’s 31 in south central VA

Shot a buck this morning but hit him way back in the gut. He went off in the thick stuff and I could hear him crashing around in the same spot and then nothing so that is a good sign, maybe I hit something major. It is 18 degrees out and I'm in no rush to go push him so I am going to give him until tomorrow morning just in case. Unfortunately we got a little unexpected snow shower that picked up after I shot him so there isn't going to be a trail to follow. I went to the spot of the hit and the arrow pulled out about 10 yards after he entered the thick stuff. Hopefully that will show me the trail he took in there too.

Unconventional tonight. Sitting on the edge of a hill overlooking some river bottom. Only about 3 feet of the ground using this old fence as my platform. Got some good bucks on cam late October.

Still up in PA, chilly and snowy, beautiful day, although I don't have any g2 post card quality photos. Saw 4 doe way out of range, plenty of fresh tracks. Was really hoping to track blood in the snow. It was a lot warmer today 17-20ish without the light wind chill, felt good I've been able to do about 2 hours sitting before getn cold. Need to look around here to see what folks are doing for cold weather.

Last evening hunt for 2017. Got in the tree real quiet, wind was perfect, have some does patterned and set up between bedding and feeding. Was raising my bow up, bumped a branch and it fell 5 ft to the snowy ground. My bow sight staring up at me while the bow front was buried in the ground. I will never buy anything made of plastic ever again... Sighted in my old sight before dark and now have to wake up in the morning to freeze my butt of in hopes that I can redeem myself on the last legal day.

Thanks guys! I will post more pics and the story later. I filled the tag on the second to last day of that season. Today is the first day of our winter bow season and I am heading out to do a little scouting for the remainder of the month.

Last sit of the 2017-2018 NC season. Hunted solely from a saddle except for a couple of times out of a ground blind with my boys. Didn't get one out of the saddle, hopefully tonight will be my lucky night!

Did about 8 sits up in PA over the New Years Holiday. Saw a few does was unable to fill any tags, was tough going for me dealing with the temps had one chance and managed to screw it up, didn't see them until it was too late. So frustrating, lol! Hopefully have a better handle on cold weather hunting.

Not a bad way to end a season. Saw tons of deer this afternoon six of which being bucks. Got these two halfway up the tree.
