Just played with this idea today in the rain.
To be clear, I really wanted to like this attachment method for a while. Ended up pretty much despising it because I had no rhyme or reason to my wraps. Trying to do this above my head was uber-ridiculous. Recently went back and reread through the thread again and keyed in on Sam's pictures in post #49. Wrapping Amsteel this way is 100000% better than what I was doing before. Made me want to do away with my OCB.
Just playing around with this, but since the bolt slides back and forth easily through the strap loop, does the capture mechanism need to be able to open and close? I have a d-ring that I was thinking about using. I would just slide the bolt into it.
good to see folks experimenting with this....if/when made even slicker, it might replace OCBs, etc. across the board.
I have an update on this method so I'm writing this to push myself to video it. Lol.
Looks good! Just have to keep the D ring in the perfect spot while tightening because it won't slide after the strap has been tightened. I would suggest a S clip that doesn't fit over the head of the bolt and can clip into the d ring ( only if you're having trouble moving the d ring to lock th e bolt down)
That's what I was wondering about. Would the d-ring not being able to move be a problem since the bolt slides back and forth?
So what i thought you'd have tried would be to get the d ring close the where the bolt head will end up, then do a turn and reset it exactly where it'll "catch" the bolt head when it's sticking straight out, but leave it folded outwards until the final twist.
Yep, not unless you have a hard strong sleeve over it to keep the rope tension off the bolt. My videos show a sleeve on the carbon rod or bolt, thats why I can slide them and thus get either or options for holding it to the rope or strap.
No, the capture doesn't have to open and close. One of the medical TQs - IIRC the SOFFT - uses a similar arrangement of D-rings - actually, delta rings, the triangular ones - to capture the windlass. The ends of the windlass are contoured to be captured by the D-ring. They're sewn in place but able to pivot within a range to capture the windlass. You might put a knob or something on each end of the windlass, and sew a loop or something so the capture ring stays in place, or within a certain range of motion.
just came across this after long searches of fixing my OCB and ways to manage the ratchet strap....let me hear some updates from you guys running this and see some updated rigs

I really suggest just using with whatever amsteel attachment method you got going atm. All you need is a long bolt, cf tube, oak dowel and a gear tie!
So not behind the “built in rope tensioning“ of the RZR 2.0s then. Must be some kind of cam mechanism. Guess we’ll find out in a couple of days.
