Would you trust 1/8 Amsteel to hang your platform or stand?

The loads applied the ropes/straps on climbing sticks is totally different than those applied to a typical platform.
The "camming over" load applied to the rope/strap is much, much greater. How do you calculate the applied load to a rope/strap? I have no idea but I'm sure each platform and camming action is different.

Certainly not close to 2500lbs though. And I don’t derate a stand/stick/platform attachment like a climbing rope, because they’re not life safety devices, just load positioning tools.

I'm curious what calculations you used to determine the amount of load applied to the rope would be less than 2500 lbs.

Typical standoff from tree at least 2 inches from bolt, 16 inch stand(estimated) =8:1 mechanical advantage or 300lbs of force applied to end of platform(actually you would need to be quite a bit more than that due to efficiency loss of friction against bark. So probably 500lb would be required. I weigh <150lbs so I’m surely not applying that kind of force. Now this force is also applied in two directions from the stand, and my 1/8 Amsteel is also full bury. So the required force to break it is well beyond my means and would most likely break the stand first.

I can't find any official diameter of the Tethrd Onestick rope, but I think its basically 7/64 Amsteel which is rated for 1400lbs?

But I'm considering using 1/8 Amsteel from EWO to hang my platform and hang-on stand, is there any concern for this?

It will not be buried btw, I dont need the rope to bite into itself or anything. Simple splices.
i just put 50’ of 1/8” Samson amsteel in my cart on Amazon……it’s $53 I love playing with amsteel and will replace and add as I go.
I WAS UNAWARE but according to the listing, 1/8” is 12 strands and the 7/64” is only 8 strands…….just wanted to throw that out there

Bit pricey… if you’re not in a pinch it’s worth checking out Dutchware

I would use a fully burried 1/8" amsteel rope with the hang free prussic tender on it. I made some of these to replace
the amsteel daisy chain ropes i had been using.

When loaded, the “core” can’t stretch as much as the “cover”, so breaks without any help from the cover, which still has stretch, and strength left.

Maybe, but I'm sure the larger rope size allows the prussic on the hang free rope to grab much better.
