Any tips for splicing amsteel ultra tech 9mm.

What's amsteel ultra tech? I just ordered Samson ultratech. Isn't it a double braid like tachyon? I eye spliced bandit and it came out excellent. I used it all season and no movement. I was hoping to do the same for the ultratech.

When you order a spliced eye, how are they measuring the eye? Is it with the end pinched and they measure the gap length. Or is it the distance the rope makes from slice, then around the loop and back to splice?

Let me know how you do. That is why I asked and the guys who have tried it said don't do it but most were referring to predator. Are they not similar.

I haven't seen predator. The bandit was a bitch but I did 3 eyes. Had to work it real good on a lally column and had to beat the bump good when it got tight.

You are the first one to catch that lol. It should be samson ultra tech.

According to Samson's site, it's spliceable. Maybe a PITA. maybe that's why treestuff only does the naked eye splice

Yeah they say splicable. What kind of splice is the question. I think if I could get the core passed through and sticking out the final splice, I could finish it.

The have the instructions on Samson's website for the ultratech

I know predator is not the rope you are talking about, but and their is always a but. Just try tapering both the core and the cover more than what they say. What I did to my teather was lock stich after I did the eye splice and took a piece of radiator hose and drove it up over the eye to protect the eye splice. I don't worry to much about weight as I do safty and comfort. Hope you give it another try. Wear gloves or you will get blisters. Greg

So did you taper it more -
  1. More strands cut ?
  2. Longer strands cut?
  3. Did you taper the core and the cover... by cover do you mean the part that covers your bury or the cover that covers the amsteel part of the rope.
  4. Not sure where you put the rad hose. Over the eye. How did you get it over the eye.

I never even got the core to the bury. I never got the fid buried far enough into the splice to start to come out of the cover. What are you using to push the core through. I tried a smaller fid but stopped where I taped the core to it and usually pulled the tape off. It’s that tight! I’ll try to taper the core. That and a small fid may be what I need.

pics to explain where I like protective covering. Not needed just what I do.
