So between reading a few posts and playing with the WE Stepps it occurred to me that everyone is trying to get them level. I was reading an old post about one fellow who set up the first step to his weak shooting side first. (Said he was a big guy)

Correct me if I am wrong. The stepps for the platform do not need to be set exactly level. As you move around the tree your tether gets shorter and you actually move upwards. Now I now that the diameter of the tree and your tether length all come into play. But as you loose tether length you are actually moving upward just a little bit.

Correct, but where the steps lay on the side you may or may not want them higher. I set up trees with screw in steps like this. Typically the 3 on the side I am hanging are at the same height, then depending on how big the tree is, the 2 towards the backside (usually use 5 total) are anywhere from 1-3 inches higher.

I know some people struggle with setting them level but I don't' spend a lot of time trying to get them perfectly level. I usually use 3 as a platform and I just cam them over wherever they don't interfere with the ropes from the the other steps, sometimes one is a little higher, sometimes a little lower. It hasn't' caused me any issues yet.

Is it true that Wild Edge is working on a platform of some type?
That has been said. No target release from Wild Edge. XOP is also talking of releasing one. No target release. A quorum of us from the Saddlehunter nation have a great one in the works. Prototyping very soon. It's moving faster than I expected.

I saw a video of a guy who made a platform from plywood for a Stepp. It looked pretty cool, packable and light.
Can't remember where I saw it?

It was on here. I'll dig it up

I’m interested to see what Andrew comes up with. I really like tithe stepps. I’m not sure how the new platform would attach to the step. My main concern is getting it tight enough. Even with a smaller platform than the xop seat you will really be pulling the top standoffs away from the tree. Then it will kind of teeter on the point of the v. There was also talk of a new improved platform in the works by some of the guys on here. It’s interesting to see what everyone comes up with.

I can corroborate what @BassBoysLLP mentioned: there is a new and improved platform being worked on by some very smart people. I anticipate it being ready BEFORE next hunting season.

I thought I would have a prototype delivered by now for a torture test. I’m definitely interested in seeing what they come up with.

I'm confident it is going to be a slam dunk for most. There has been a lot of constructive critical review along the way. Lots of good ideas. And many bad ones. a couple innovative ideas never presented to the saddle hunter. I hope Ernie sells a million of them.
