    Pursuit Platform Gen 2 questions

It may need to just get fully set. Mine slipped just a tad bit at first but doesn’t move at all but I’m also 260 lbs so once it’s set, it’s really set. Worst case you could add another wrap to give it more bite.

    Saddle Station

Just a thought, as I love a good modification challenge. Would it be possible to attach the waist band in such a way that when you’re in the tree you unfasten the top of the waist band, it then folds down to hang just under the pack frame. Hang the pack in such a way as the waist band is now...

New rappel device for small rope?

That looks sharp. I love the fact you don’t have to have a carabiner. Eliminates some of the potential noise and shortens the attachment to the tether. I do wonder though if it doesn’t have a spring to keep it open, like the Life guard and the regular GriGri. Watching the video it looks like...

Using this for a quick link

I started a thread in the climbing section based off of that video. https://saddlehunter.com/community/index.php?threads/not-meaning-to-open-a-can-of-worms-cross-loading-carabiners.57126/ The debate and discussion was pretty good and didn’t open up too much of a crap storm. To be honest my...

    Why don't yall 2TC?

True crampons like mountaineers will wear often have a set facing forward. Ice Climbers, a very interesting lot in their own regard, wear crampons that have spikes facing forward as well.

New rappel device for small rope?

I think the issue for me is that I weight 260 and I have not found a hitch yet that will release easily once I’ve had to put my full weight on it except those that require a whole bunch of space. I was also taught the hitch below the device many years ago when I was into climbing so it’s just...

New rappel device for small rope?

In order to hang off of an ATC you either have to have a friction hitch on the rappel rope, either above or below it, or you have to tie it off. For our use, a friction hitch would be easiest since tying off is a bit of a chore. I would suggest the friction hitch below the device since it...

New rappel device for small rope?

I wouldn’t be surprised for some mechanical belay devices to come out for the smaller diameter ropes that are becoming so popular in the Canyoneering world. For now though there is the Alpine ATC that will work with the smaller ropes.

    Why don't yall 2TC?

For 1-stick climbing I’ll move the tether as high as possible. For 2TC I will only put it up to about my forehead. Any higher and it just seems harder. My foot tether starts out around my waist when I’m standing in it then moves up about a foot under the main tether.

    Why don't yall 2TC?

For me I found one of the keys was to shorten the length of the foot tether from where it girth hitched around the tree down to the foot loop. Sorter was certainly more stable. Also, have to dig the toe in to the tree, not just but the toe up against the tree.

    Why don't yall 2TC?

Certainly with 2TC slow is smooth and smooth is fast. Don’t get in a hurry and enjoy the climb.

    8mm Predator rappel rope

As I sat and thought about the difference in stated usage and the limitations I can guess that it is because the great difference in potential forces that would be generated. Catching a climber on belay can and will produce considerably more forces than a static rappel. Now I’ll ad to this, I...

    8mm Predator rappel rope

Here’s what Madrock says on their website. “For rescue / rigging use: 8.1mm to 11mm rope diameter For climbing use: 8.9mm to 11mm rope diameter” I’m not entirely sure what they mean by “rescue/rigging use.”

Does anyone just use the ring of step?

I saw an announcement that they were including that with the steps now. Apparently some people had felt the steps were slick. i would be worried about the inherent noise of the traction tape. For me, I would get a wood burner and just burn in some texture if I was worried about it. Easy...
