    DIY Buck Boiler

Somehow I missed the responses in this thread. More or less my process is the same as @Blacksmith described. I always do it right away, usually while I sit at the table butchering the rest of the meat. I've had a couple heads that I boiled a second time to get some of the greasiness and the...

Safety thoughts on using a hasty harness?

Having the webbing in your pack hanging on the tree while you take a leak and somehow drop a harness? Most of these "in case of emergency" things are more about the knowledge base to make do rather than a practical need in the field. Sometimes it's about giving a "newb" a chance to try out...

Out of curiosity, did you not like what you have? Why the search for a new design?

DIY Rick Young Style Bino Harness

For about 5 years I've been doing basically the same with loop of cordage run through split rings on the binoculars that I cross over my back. Just made it from a cut-off of paracord I already had and split rings from some old key-rings.

Safety thoughts on using a hasty harness?

I've been rock climbing for 30 years and have used this method to climb hundreds of times. We also used to use it for Search and Rescue vertical rescues. Works great. Not super comfortable but plenty safe.

    DIY Buck Boiler

I boil the skull for long enough that the meat just falls off. Then a scrub brush for dishes with some dawn dish soap, maybe an old toothbrush for the delicate areas and it's clean. I do it in the kitchen sink. I think the last one I did was maybe two hours of cooking then 20-30 minutes of...

    DIY Buck Boiler

Serious questions. Am I the only person who does this on the stove with a soup pot? What drives everyone to this level of effort?

    Adding thumb holes to clothing...

You don't get the coverage on the base of your hand that way. Part of the benefit of the thumb hole is getting some warmth when you're not wearing gloves. It also helps with wind. going up your jacket sleeve The loop of webbing/cordage would help with wind too but not as well.

    Adding thumb holes to clothing...

If you know how to whip the end of a rope, you know how to darn a hole or secure one you've deliberately created. You can literally just sew in and out of the garment wrapping the edge of the hole created in the loop of thread. There are better ways but this one will work. If you want it to...

    Trending yields from your harvests

https://saddlehunter.com/community/index.php?threads/soap.55790/#post-803748 Not a lot of detail there but one of my posts in that thread gives some depth and some recommendations for source material.

    Trending yields from your harvests

We usually make soap. I have a thread here somewhere about it. You can also make candles but we don't use candles as often as we use soap.

Who uses the latitude ss sticks

Add me to the list of those who like them. I bought mine second hand off of here and this is my first season with them. Light-weight, quiet, relatively quick, stable, and they don't feel cold.

craft for a collection of spike and forky antler skull caps (can saw off antlers)?

if you like games, backgammon, go, or checker pieces are just slices. You could get really ambitious and work on some chess pieces.

    Arrow building/fletching tool suggestions

Interesting, I use the Bohnin Fletchtite and my fletches come off if you breath on them funny. Perhaps operator error...

    Trending yields from your harvests

I package at 2 pounds per package for ground meat, 4-6 pounds for jerky, 2-3 pounds for stew meat, and about 1.5-2 pounds for steaks. I get about 50-55% field dressed weight as yield. The doe i got at Thanksgiving dressed out at 112 pounds and i got right at 55 pounds of meat and 5 pounds of...
