    2024 Trail Camera Thread

Got this one April 15 starting to show a little growth.

    Whats your preferred tuning method?

I do pretty much the same as the OP, but I also try varying the insert/point weight. Sometimes adding or subtracting a bit fixes the paper tune problem without adjusting anything on the bow.

    Truer Words Were Never Spoken...

It's all in how you train your eyes. My wife of thirteen years has learned to spot deer like that too now. She does not hunt, but after years of me pointing them out, her eyes are trained to pick out an an ear, the curve of the rump, the white V on the tail or whatever. Sometimes she even spots...

    Tree ID?

To me, the shape of the tree does not look like an elm, at least not the ones we have around here. They're usually more fan shaped, like this:

Fess up, who hasn't shot their bow since last season ended?

I shot mine pretty regularly after the season in January, then missed a month or so. Started working on paper tuning after I bought a bunch of new arrows, then got distracted by fishing again. Haven't actually released an arrow in probably six to eight weeks. But I have picked it up almost...

Favorite Hunting Clothing Brand (where you like the camo pattern)

I don't really pay attention to the brand or the name of the camo pattern. I just look for whatever is on sale or clearance, is a reasonable color palette, and has a lot of large light areas and large dark areas. Of course, over time, they end up being a lot of medium areas on the light/dark...

Are some rubber boots better with ground scent?

I've had mixed results with the Nose Jammer. Some deer would get downwind or cross my trail and show no reaction at all. Others would get nervous and wander off. I did have a few flip out and hit the afterburners to get out of town, even after I'd had other deer not react to it. I do still use...

    Saddle Tree Setup Discussion

If I were setting up like this, especially if I anticipate rotating around the tree to my right, I might put the tether on the other trunk, the one closer to me. Just personal preference.

How to invent stuff if you're not a maker-person

You might check with a local small business association. They would probably be able to give you some really good advice and information resources on how to approach this situation.

    2024 fishing thread

You're getting me fired up! Thursday my brothers and I are heading out to nab a few crappie (they aren't on the banks yet, but should be close), then next Thursday through Sunday I'll be down at Broken Bow Lake (OK) for a tournament. Two days pre-fishing, and two days for the tournament. Don't...

Anyone use John Eberharts scent control methods?

I don't follow his regimen 100% - it's way too much for me, but I have found a level I can live with, and is producing good results. I don't follow any special practices with my vehicle - the dog and wife regularly ride with me during hunting season. I refuse to do any special shaving for...

    2024 fishing thread

The bluegills in the pond next to the house can't refuse a pink squirminator. But they max out at about 3 1/2". I could thin them out and let them get bigger, but they do a fantastic job eating all the mosquito larvae.

    2024 fishing thread

That is fantastic. I don't tie any dry flies, mostly because I don't get much opportunity to use them, and partly because I'm a horrible tyer. Is that mostly mallard or wood duck? (other than the hackle) Stocker rainbows love my half-assed nymphs, worm, and egg patterns.

    Tree Risk Assessing

Another thing that keeps me out of trees is poison ivy. I've scouted areas that had it on pretty much every tree around the deer sign/travel path, so I just kind of mentally labeled the whole area off limits.
