Grappling hook ideas. DIY or off the shelf

I got one at $30.00 from Walnut Grove Hunting Products. I'm going to try it this season and it works great in practice sessions. I'll see how it goes during the season

    Southern WV public land

Nov. 10 @ 6:45am was able to connect on this buck after seeing him on a trail cam. Weather was warm all week with limited movement to mornings primarily. Southern WV public land WMA. Made my season!

    Barren ridge treestand

With the size of the cable, 16" in diameter is about the maximum size of tree for climbing. They do sell a 5' cable, which does increase your options. I also bought the 5' cable and carry it in my pack if I have to climb a larger diameter tree.

    Barren ridge treestand

Once you use the provided strap to wrap around the stand and tree; it is surprisingly solid in regards to side pressure. I can actually stand on the support arms with no movement noted.

    Barren ridge treestand

Yes, it's a climbing platform, although your tree size is limited.

    Barren ridge treestand

Yeah, I don't do the one foot method and don't use the strap. It's good as gold for me! I only use the strap to attach around the tree once I reach my desired height.

    Climbing sticks

Yeah, I bought last year at $99.00. Was just taken aback that they had doubled in price; I guess just like everything these days.

    Who uses suspenders??

I use the First Lite suspenders and I kick myself for not using them sooner! They make all of the difference for the long walks in.

    Biggest Saddle Related Flop

Yes, I had the support arms welded as I was not a fan of the 4 pins. Stealth stripped the arms and used shrink wrap on the two pins. I also ditched the foot loop as I feel it was not necessary for me. I'm liking the platform but it's not ideal for really large diameter trees. I also bought...

    Tethrd One Sticks Gen 2

Yes, there is definitely TDS in this forum but nowhere near the toxicity level of AT. You typically see the same users piling on when there’s an issue, but the saddle hunting masses still will buy the lightest, latest, and greatest. It’s an easy decision for me; if I don’t like the quality of...

    Barren Ridge Reviews?

Yeah, i was echoing the website for diameters but the 5' cable does open up your window for tree selection. I was able to climb similar sized trees that are typical in the areas I hunt but there is definitely some trade-off in that you cannot climb the really big trees. Like you, I didn't like...
