    Northern lights

Just a pinkish glow through the clouds here in Central Illinois. Saw them several times here in the 60's.

Shifting from Ropeman 1 to hitch on 11mm tether.....suggestions that have been field tested

The ring is an Omega Pacific 2" o.d. X 1 1/8" i.d. and I forgot I switched to around 4 feet of TRC cord in order to get a closer hitch for SRT. I tied in the back with a figure 8 with stopper knots behind the 8. The VT worked well but the biner made it a little longer than I like for ascending...

Shifting from Ropeman 1 to hitch on 11mm tether.....suggestions that have been field tested

I've been using the 8mm Bluewater VT on Canyon Elite 9mm in the Stitch with an aluminum ring for my bridge and I have had really good results, Thanks @Brocky !

    Subtle safety reminder

I select my trees in full daylight so I can go back in the dark and set up without this worry. I developed this habit after picking a tree to sit in before daylight back in the 70's. I was sitting on a fenceline in an elm with three main branches spreading out from the main trunk about 10 feet...

    Whats your preferred tuning method?

I use fully fletched shafts with Lumenock and broadheads and throw them by hand from 2 feet to 25 yards until happy with the grouping before getting the recurve out. Seriously, I just shoot a bunch of arrows while adjusting EVERYTHING hundreds of times and starting over often.

Favorite Hunting Clothing Brand (where you like the camo pattern)

Those were my Fathers very words on hunting. I became a better hunter but could never match his running rabbit shots with the .22 pistols.

Favorite Hunting Clothing Brand (where you like the camo pattern)

I like the Mossy Oak patterns for Illinois hardwood timbers. The Code of Silence is great also.

    Turkey pacseat for deer hunting?

I use my full size version when it gets too cold for me to be up in a tree. It works well as intended but there's just something special about elevated tree hunting for me. I have to really bundle up when it gets below freezing due to allowing myself to get old before I was ready for...

    Cleaning up

It's their living room and they like cover and browse. Trails are okay with them but clearing everything off gives them a bad vibe.

    2024 Gear thread

Yes, I have hunted a long time on many various properties so I've seen all kinds of so called hunters and can really appreciate the group that hunt on our little corner of the world.

    2024 Gear thread

I'm intending to order those Hyperlite sticks the minute I receive the e-mail. The standoff is okay for my size 9-10 boots and I really like their design and stacking. I have several sets of sticks and leave some of them on the trees most of the season as I hunt private land that only sees...

Questions about saddles and longer traditional bows

Total agreement here. I shoot 54" and 58" recurves with tether at forehead height and Aerohunter backband on the bridge. I don't cant by bow but like both feet flat on the platform.

At what distance do your kill your deer?

12 to 15 with the recurves, 20-30 with compounds. I did kill a doe many years ago at 45 yards with a recurve but she was framed perfectly between two willows with a fallen oak laying horizontal at the ribline. If I'd missed the lungs it would have hit tree or gone over the back. She ran about 30...

47 pound Wing recurve drawing 27.5 inch 465 total arrow weight. Never chronographed but can't walk that fast.:)
