What did you learn this hunting season?

I learned that it is not possible, for me, to compromise enough to satisfy my wife while also expecting any sort of consistent success.

    Weak side shots

If I see something coming towards weak side I'll let out enough slack in my tether to where it feels like I'm sitting in a chair. Rotate 90 degrees left and the weakside shot becomes more of a 4-6 o clock shot. There's a little bit less movement I feel than standing up and turning around but...

Cruzr Archon or Latitude Outdoors Method 2?

Think I might be the only person on this forum that uses an Archon. I've used it 2 seasons and I'm probably a 60/40 sitter/leaner. 5' 11"/175 lb, for reference. At first I though it was a little bulky but I got used to it. Suspenders are a must or the top panel will flop a bit. I will wear the...

    Gear you liked/disliked 2023

Last year was my upgrade year and I liked everything so I won't go back through the list. The one piece I've really been loving is my solitude bibs. I can wear them in the 40s with light long John's and I can wear them in the teens with heavy long Johns and a pair of pants. All the right...

    What's your time to hunt?

I use 3 sticks and a platform, can be 'hunting' in about 15-20 but it's closer to 30 minutes til I'm all settled in.

    Do you roll your own?

I do it like that too. Started doing it for packing suitcases but realized it does a much better job or keeping wrinkles out and being organized so I started doing it in my dresser too, and ultimately my huntings totes. It still gets disorganized by the end of a hunt but I pretty much re-roll...

    Help me with processing

Frozen jugs are the ticket if you're using a cooler. We pretty much debone everything but the front quarters straight off the dear and throw that in a cooler with a couple frozen gallon jugs. Rotate the jugs every day or two until I get home. I usually move them onto trays or bowls in the garage...

Green Light for walk in/set up

I've walked within 15 yards of bedded deer using a white light before and climbed many a tree with deer standing inside 50 yards watching me. I don't nkow if they can't see as well in the dark as we give them credit for or if for some reason they just get super dumb in the dark. I've even had...

Do you wear your leg straps

I use my straps. They used to annoy me but then I just loosened them out to where I don't feel them. I don't know if that's any more unsafe or not but by my reasoning it'll still catch me.

How high is high enough with a saddle?

If you can't get high or in good cover wear snow camo, they look right through you.

Need suggestions for WARM but thin/light clothing

FIrst lite is great but I agree their outter layers are a bit pricey. If you can find them on a decent sale, which they just were, it's very much worth it. Get some good merino base layers and a good fleece mid layer or two and then a good reasonably priced, windproof outter layer. 54 and windy...

    Another pack question...

If you can find a used Venture 2200 I highly recommend it. I have that and a pop up but generally don't use the pop up unless I need some serious layers or am considering a pack out. The straps and pockets are all perfect and the long frame carries nice for an internal frame. Might be a little...

    Headlamp recommendations

I'm a petzel fan. I've had a couple black diamonds and with each one I had an issue with what i assume was water damage. The batteries would always corrode and I'd have to replace the light every 2 or 3 years. I've had none such issues with the petzel.

    Little Debbie's

Powdered donuts. Problem is i eat so many of them they plug me right up.
