    bridge - Rope vs Amsteel

It probably is, but the MBS of 3/16" amsteel is 4900 pounds. For that 1/16" difference, I'd go with 4900. Then again, I'm old and don't heal as fast as I used to, so I prefer not to test the MBS. If you are comfortable with it, go for it. One of the things that makes me a bit nervous about the...

    bridge - Rope vs Amsteel

So in your testing the amsteel broke at the LB, or did it cause the splice to slip since it wasn't going straight into the center of the rope? Is this based on testing a closed loop? Is this the same for a loop at the end of a rope since the splice has to go through the braids rather than into...

    bridge - Rope vs Amsteel

I'm not trying to start an argument here, I'm just trying to learn something. How does a locked Brummell weaken a splice? Are people using the LB only to make the splice. I've always used a LB in conjunction with a tapered splice and assumed the splice did the holding while the LB kept it from...

    Examples of dangerous carabiner loading

Since you have the tubing on yours, I'm just guessing. I may go with this one since it locks, but it doesn't look like yours is a locker...

    Examples of dangerous carabiner loading

What carabiner are you using? I'm finding the quick-link to be a pain and far from quick. I can't see myself climbing a tree small enough to make cross loading an issue with a carabiner.

    bridge - Rope vs Amsteel

I just switched out my Amsteel bridge for a rope one. The adjustable aspect of an "adjustable" Amsteel bridge and an amsteel friction hitch is a misnomer. I'm going to try 9mm climbing rope for the bridge with prussik cord for the adjuster. I haven't had a chance to try it on a tree yet, but...

    I think I’m done rappelling - Rant/Question

I do too. I guess what I meant was having to move the tether for each stick, even with a lineman's rope, creates slack, which I don't get when rappelling. One sticking down with but a tether and lineman's rope seems both tedious and dangerous.

    I think I’m done rappelling - Rant/Question

I agree. After starting to rappel down, I just don't feel safe climbing down untethered. In fact even using a hang on stand with a regular safety harness feels rather disconcerting after getting used to saddle hunting. I'm still learning the one-stick game, but each time gets easier as I learn...

    One stick length

That’s pretty much why I didn’t chop them that short. Thanks for confirming what I suspected!

    One stick length

Already did that. I just forgot to mention it in my first post. They do make a huge difference!

    One stick length

If that's all it is, my stick works fine on my pack. I don't think shortening it would make much difference. The platform is really the bulkiest part anyway. Shortening the stick really won't help that. Thanks for the response though!

    One stick length

I've recently put together my version of an ultimate one stick using a modified Muddy Pro stick shortened to 17" between steps, lightened a bit by drilling ala Beast sticks, and adding an Ultimate Platform and Ultimaider. I've noticed on many youtube videos that guys are using extremely short...

    Is one-sticking still a thing?

I’d recommend designing your standoffs to put the front of your stick farther off the tree, so your aider hangs far enough from the tree to easily get your boot far enough into the aider. Once I got the stand-off form Eastern Woods Outdoors, one stick climbing got much easier.

    Is one-sticking still a thing?

When I first tried it, it was one stick and a platform. It sucked! I couldn’t get my foot into the aider while I dangled from my rope. This year I modified a Muddy pro stick with an EWO standoff and platform. What a difference! Now it is easy.

    Tubular Webbing bridge

That’s how I have my Amsteel bridge and lineman’s rope set up, I’m not thrilled with the amsteel bridge it’s a PITA to adjust so I generally don’t. The hitch knot also hits my carabiner when I rotate left. I’m going to modify it somehow,.

Saddle comfort, long sits are just painful

I've only tried two so far. First I borrowed my son's Eberhart-style two piece, which was supposed to be super comfortable. Not for me, unfortunately. I bought a Cruzr XC and find it quite comfortable. I haven't hunted with it a lot yet, mostly because I haven't found the climbing system that...

About to dive in head first

    1. Recon comes with a tubular web bridge, so no, you won't need to buy one. I'd plan on putting the Recon in the pack for the walk in and put it on at the tree. I tried my son's Recon, and I think it pretty much sucks to walk in. There are some mods that help, but it will fit into a pack pretty...

    1 vs. 2 panel

I tried my son's Recon, and if that were the only choice, I wouldn't saddle hunt. It sucks to walk with in addition to the constant fiddling, no thanks. I ordered a Cruzr XC, and so far I love it! As far as the diaper feeling when walking, I would have agreed with you at first. Then I quit...
