Wisconsin Packing out deer in 5 pieces

This is a dumb rule that I hope they change. I think it's mostly due to CWD concerns. I have multiple gripes with this rule, but mostly I think it just makes it harder to get the deer out rather than make it easier. I hope they change this in the future, but I doubt it will happen.

    Looking for knife recommendations

Are you looking for a knife just for field dressing or to skin, quarter, and bone out? You also didn't say if you were looking for folder or fixed blade. I'm guessing fixed because of your sheath requirements. Here are my suggestions. Several people have suggested knifes from Bark River...

    Official Team 7 discussion thread.

Sorry I didn't put any points on the board for our team gents. I got a nice buck and doe with my bow, but just happened to be hunting out of a stand that particular day. Since my freezer was full, my gun season was more casual than normal and I passed on opportunities at does. Fun to see...

How many use tarps instead of tents?

They both have their place. Where and when do you plan to use it? If you do more early season hunts where mosquitoes are not an issue then I would lean towards a tarp. If your dealing with cold late season or extended rain/snow weather then a solid tent or tipi with stove might be better...

Great work guys. I'm in Wisconsin and we opened up today but work kept me out of the woods this weekend. I'll be after it before to long. Good luck to everyone!

    Wtb cutthroat/bone

If we lived closer I'd try to meet up with you but as I'm in WI not so much. I have some Bone Broadheads on order that should be here in a few weeks. I might be interested in a head swap 1 for 1 if you were to buy the Cutthroat heads in 125.

    Suggestions for Deer processing equipment

Where I live there are places that you can donate the hide. I would ask around at local sporting goods shop as they may know of places that take hides. As for bones you can always make your own stock from the bones. There are plenty of places to find recipe for that. I would check out Hank...

    Suggestions for Deer processing equipment

I really enjoy butchering my own deer and I'm sure you will too. You really don't need much to get started and you probably have most of what you need already. - Gambrel to hang game from unless you do the gutless method and quarter in the field. You should be able to pick one up for $20 or...

    Black Gold thoughts

I also have the single pin slider and like it. I go back and fourth if I'd rather have the three pin. I think if I still lived out west and did more mountain hunting I'd go to the three pin. For Midwest hunting where most shots are in the 15-25 yard range I think one pin is just easier.

What do you drag a deer with?

I would probably do the gutless method but our state has rules in place that make it all but impossible. We have to take the everything out of the woods including the hide and spine. The deer can be in no more than five parts. It's silly and I've heard that it might be chaining for next year...

What do you drag a deer with?

I like that idea, but its frowned upon on public land.

What do you drag a deer with?

The deep sides are nice so that the deer doesn't fall out, which may happen in those smaller sleds. You could add some paracord or bungee cords to hold the deer in.

    posting for a point!

I finally crossed the 75 mark. Only had to welcome about 30 people to the site. I'm a welcoming kind of guy though so it wasn't that bad. Looking forward to this fall and more hunts form a saddle. Hopefully I will get my first buck from a saddle, last year I came real close.

Sold on the Saddle from WI

Welcome from another WI hunter! If you can try some different platforms you will find what works best for you. I prefer the platform over the ring of steps. I think if I did steps I would lean toward the wild edge steps but thats just me. Good luck this fall!
