    Preferred Ratchet Strap

Just wondering if anyone has a ratchet strap they really like, thinking about well-built, not too noisy, not too bulky/heavy, secure? Thoughts appreciated.

    Super Munter to Descend?

Just adding one more detail to this good thread: Now, after using both of them the last month or so for daily climbing, I conclude that YES, it does put a twist in your rope, but it's not a lot and as mentioned above on a 35' rope it can be largely ignored. The more important point though is...

    Learning from Saddle Hunting Accidents

I will add to Weldabeasts stuff-ya-gotta-do list: Use a locking carabiner.

Does anyone just use the ring of step?

I am planning a few sits next fall using about four steps (two each side of tree) with a Pursuit Platform (that triangular plastic thing) between the two as my "platform". It's not much of a platform, to be sure, but for a few hours I suspect it will do. I will use a cam-buckle or OCB to secure...

    Show Us Those Hunting Bikes

I have an UBCO work bike. Like the design a lot. Reliability is not fully proven yet but will find out in the fall. Screenshot from the manufacturer of it below. Mine is just like that. Best features are 1) low center of gravity, 2) rugged frame and design; not a motorized mountain bike, 3) sure...

    Super Munter to Descend?

Senior moments? You bet! Yes, I have my ropes and hitch ropes. I simply use an 11mm climbing rope to descend. For backup, I put a prusik in above the munter; I monitor the tail of the Munter with my right hand and tend the Prusik with my left, pulling it down as I descend. I believe in backups!

    Super Munter to Descend?

John, I can look at a lean fellow like you and know I need more Munter than you do LOL! Thanks though. Will review your video. Once again, you are a helpful authority for all the rest of us.

Fixed Rope for Long Term Placement in the Woods?

My buddy and I hunt a several hundred acre property and have the option of erecting half a dozen stands each having a fixed rope and steps (we carry our platform in with us). We will hunt these all of these stands five or six times during the season. The rope is girth hitched at top about 28'...

    Super Munter to Descend?

Wondering if any of you are using the Super Munter knot on your standard locking carabiner for descending? If so, any problems with it? I am trying to reduce the hardware I am taking up the tree and considering giving up my Figure Eight. Advice?

    2024 Off-Season Getting/Staying In Shape Motivation Thread

(by the way, I am impressed by the kick-ass workouts you guys are doing!) Adding to my earlier post, I am alternating my run days with some "rucking" days. Usually it is four running days (~3 to 4 miles each day) a week, and two rucking days (4 to 5 miles carrying 45lbs in a ruck sack). This...

    2024 Off-Season Getting/Staying In Shape Motivation Thread

Great thread here. Not sure I can compete with the OPs "marathon-shape" example, but I am doing my part. Now ten days into a "Dry January" where I've not had a drop of alcohol since new years eve. I am not a big drinker, but have been a one wine/beer a day man for twenty years. I confess that...

    Gear you liked/disliked 2023

Just double tapping on Mystery Ranch packs. They really are a better designed pack, from a sure-enough pack company. Yes, you pay for them but they well designed and well built.

    Gear you liked/disliked 2023

I am toting a Kindle too, and love it. Makes reading on the stand a lot easier and can quickly hide the Kindle in case an animal approaches. I drilled a ~3mm hole in the top right corner of the kindle and strung about 24"of D loop cord through it, enabling me to tie it off to something so I can...

Very useful thread here: Worked killing eight deer: Sevr broad heads worked pretty well, but not sharp enough out of the box. Will use them next year but will put my own edge on them. Cruzr XC saddle very comfy. My Hoyt VTM34 + Black Gold Rush sight + Gold Tip Airstrikes at about 520 grains...

    Black Gold Sights

My experience a lot like JFISH above. I have two BG sights, both of them are the Rush model, one with .010 and one with .019 pins. They are super bright, such that I never, ever wish for a sight light. I hunt inside forest canopy in low country of SC where it gets dark early, and so sight...
