PSA: How I fell from 30ft and still celebrated the 4th!

Thanks for sharing. We all do dumb things or just have freak things happen. They remind us how important it is to take precautions seriously. We all can use reminders from time to time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    New guy from Pennsylvania

Welcome, good luck. I always used a climber as well. Sticks and the saddle don’t save tons of weight, but they can be less bulky once you figure out the best way to pack. It has its place, but there are definitely different challenges to saddle hunting. I still sometimes take my Summit viper...

Brief in tree video of The Pulpit mods

are they comfortable? Can you stand in them for a few minutes to rest from sitting?

Brief in tree video of The Pulpit mods

Nice. What's the arrangement that you have your feet in? It looks like some straps that are strapped to the tree?

    All Gear Ropes

How much did it set you back? Good rope sure is expensive. I use this that I bought off of Amazon: OPG ATAR static kernmantle rescue rappelling rope 11mm x 100 feet tactical Black UL ANSI NFPA USA I've been very happy with it so far. I like that it's black rather than a bright color.

    Muddy or Lone wolf??

I totally agree on the weight reduction... double steps is nicer, but I can deal with a single step when there is a reason like weight reduction. I have a set of Lone Wolf's that I'm impressed with so far. I also just picked up a set of heliums to try. I saw someone mention having a double...

    EONPOW climbers

Lots of doom and gloom from comments. :) I'm sure you'll have your linemen's belt or some other safety belt on so doesn't seem that extreme to me. I'm very curious to hear how they work. I agree it looks like the concept is similar to a climbing tree stand and will take practice. Keep us...

    Video climb. Petzl RADS

So the solid locking sounds like the feature you like the most? Thanks for sharing. What size rope do you run? I've been pretty happy with my grigri2 so far. I feel really solid on it and have never had an issue. I've only used one season though.

    Video climb. Petzl RADS

How do you like the Petzl rig? It's almost twice as expensive as the Grigri2 so you must like it a lot more? I started with a pulley at the top, then ran through the carabiner and now I don't use at all. I just pull the rope up through my Grigri2 rather than pulling down. It takes more...

    Modified Cranford Rope Steps

Thanks for the caution redsquirrel based on your experience. They do move around some which is unpleasant, but I didn't have any issues sliding down the tree. Perhaps a birch or other very smooth bark tree would be more of an issue? I hunted out of trees with relatively rough bark so far...

Best sticks for mobile / lightest?

using sticks and a hang on does open better tree options as well so that's a great point that I forgot to agree with.

Best sticks for mobile / lightest?

Gotcha, thanks for sharing. Always keen to learn about methods. I feel like I can operate my Summit fairly quietly, but it does make some noise. Mostly when packing and unpacking. Your setup does look like it would also be a little lower profile. 2-3 miles is quite a hike to a setup...

Best sticks for mobile / lightest?

excellent! Thanks for the tips and photos. Question... why not a climbing treestand if you carry both sticks and the hang-on... or do you usually leave in the tree? 21lbs is as much as or maybe even more than my Summit climbing treestand.

Best sticks for mobile / lightest?

Lighter with both steps? I guess I should look at those. I did see something about hawk helium and a button mod... going to need to look into that more. Tell me more about your mods. "rope mods" - what knots are you using... how does it cinch tight? "stealth strips" - what, where are those?
