LOL....the site hasn't alerted me to replies. I just saw all these nice replies and will go through them now!

It is for keeping pencils in my pack for use in navigation or rite in the rain paper. I like wood pencils because you can sharpen them and use even when broken, unlike mechanicals. But I want to keep them nice and out of the way.

This is more for hiking than hunting, although I'd probably take them when scouting or hunting a new spot and taking notes/navigating with map/compass. If I'm going to be in the woods for a week hiking, then I want 2 to 6 wood pencils.
