2023 PA Firearms Opener Report Thread

Man - that guy needs to go to the range more often!!! :tonguewink:

It did make me wonder how many of those connected. How many were whiffs and how many were kill shots?

180 shots != 180 kills.

I'm a one-shot, one-kill kind of guy myself. I wait for a clean, stable shot or I don't shoot. I know that's not the case for others though.

Were these folks shooting at jumped/running deer? I know that's likely the case for the 2-5 shot volleys...

BANG... oh, someone got one...
BANG BANG BANG BANG... oh, wait, no they didn't.

I wish there was some way to know the stats, i.e.:
180 shots
130 connected
87 were lethal

87 deer down from 180 shots, but...

Dont forget the brush shots. Always need a handful of those to keep folks honesty and twitchy. ;)

This opener was my most successful of my hunting career. Most years I need to get it done in archery season as I rarely have success once the Orange army comes out. I hunt on the state forest in 4B. Even though we don’t usually see much it’s a very nostalgic time filled with tradition, this was my grandpas 59th year hunting these woods. We have three generations at our camp that was built in 1919. Most years I eat tag soup but this year I was blessed to tag out by 9am with this buck and doe. Took a long time to drag them out. Next year I might start deboning in the field.

I'll never forget years ago my dad and I hunted public with only 1 access point. We had fresh snow on the ground from the night prior. We heard over 60 shots by noon in relative close proximity. When we walked out there wasn't a single drag trail or drop of blood on the way out. People get bored and shoot to hear the gun go pew pew
