Any tips for splicing amsteel ultra tech 9mm.

pics to explain where I like protective covering. Not needed just what I do.
Nice splices.
I was trying to figure out...
  1. You did not taper or remove anything from the cover
  2. You tapered the part of the rope that you buried... you tapered longer pieces and more than six strands??
  3. Did you taper the core that surrounded the bury too to make it thin enough to go inside the cover??
  4. Just wondering thanks. Looks like a great looking a splice. Congratulations.
  5. And then you lock stitched it.

You taper both the core and the cover that you bury. Don't be afraid to taper them back to the bury. Than lock stitch it. The new england you tube video where he milks and snaps the rope is the secret. You just have to be more aggressive. Use a wire to pull the finale bury instead of a fid. I tested both my rope splice on a scale to 400 pounds and saw no movement. Also use a rubber hammar on the bury as you get close to the end. And wear gloves

I wish I would have looked around before ordering rope for my sticks. The cover is so tight I don’t see how it can be spliced

24 strands to bury pull inside cut off 12 6 on both parts of the core

There’s been a few guys successfully pull it off. I did it once and will never do it again!
I've managed to get it done a couple times on predator but I wouldn't recommend it. The cover on the predator is very tight and it's tough to bury the splice. I found I had to taper the core before I fed it back under the cover to get it to fit. As said above, wear gloves. I ended up with a bad case of blisters both times:laughing:.

Not sure but this seems like what @Trademan4 did. I’ve never spliced but it includes the eye cover & he had to use a rubber mallet at the end to loosen fibers.

I don’t know how to post the whole video but here is a YouTube link.

(Premium ropes video 7.3.2)

I guess the video automatically posted from the link.

Does this seem like the way to eye splice the Samson Ultratech, while retaining the cover for abrasion protection?

I did it like the video that is below the video link from New England rope. I just took more strands out when tapering.

If I watch the first video and scroll down a couple more videos I see Splicing Double Braid by New England video. He is using a blue piece of rope.

Is that it?

I don’t know anything about splicing so don’t know which video has someone milking and snapping rope.

I thought they might be of interest. 5” spliced loop is my teather, eye splice on end of my linemans belt. Both Predator purchased from sale bin at WesSpur, I live 20 minutes away, great people, very knowledgeable and innovative. Just like the folks on your site! Thank you

Guys, I thing the ultratech is different. It's class II double braid. I did bandit and saluting flags, both tachyon with the sheath getting buried .
Samson's video to do ultratech is different, it's probably impossible to get the sheath buried so they leave the tag end out and whip it all at the end.
I attempted to last night. Didn't whip it yet though.
Follow the link I posted earlier. I wouldnt start hacking off strands to make it fit. You may compromise the integrity of the rope.

Nice job so the sheath as seen is hollow. Cut it off and whip the end.

Getting ready to splice some ultra tech. Did we come to a conclusion of which method to use? The premium ropes video where they bury the cover also, or the Samson rope class 2 eye splice where the cover is whipped? I noticed guys are able to bury the cover on predator rope what are the differences between the two?

Well I was able to splice it with burying the cover. Definitely difficult but not impossible. I know Samson recommends splicing the core and whipping the cover but I liked this design and seen this video on YouTube couldn’t find any difference between the rope they were using vs. ultra tech except different but similar core material. Also I was shooting for an 6jn eye and ended up with a 5in eye just a heads up.IMG_5601.JPG

Cool! How far in does the sheath go?
