Well I just picked up a set of these sticks on the other forum, hoping they may be one of my main sets this year.

After I paid for them I had a friend tell me he had trouble with his kicking out!

Any real experience would be appreciated

I guess nobody has any experience with these sticks?
I had them with my .5 they pack great! I did have some problems with them kicking out some times. I think the button is to hight on them. Really noticeable if you're climbing down and not removing the sticks.

I don't have the 17's. I have the 20's and think most of the kick out complaints come from hunters who don't use the cam straps. Sure you may have figured out a custom replacement but those cams are a no brainer and they work.

As mentioned above, the cam strap works. The buckleless straps have worked really well for me, too: 3/4" buckle-less strap
The amsteel daisy chains and the daisy chain webbing did not work well at all. A big no-go for those methods.

Gotta use the cam straps. Then they are fine. I have 3 20” with 20” cable aiders
I did use cam buckle straps!!! it was on trees with slick bark not bad on oak and heavy bark trees. I always set my sticks. I really noticed it when I had to climb down for something and go back up the stick. It's when you put your weight on the top step. IMO the button is to hight on the 17inch sticks it may be better with the 20inch.
