Boat advice

Took nucanoe on maiden scouting trip today with IkemanTx, performed great. Glad I got it.

Sweet! I am ordering a Frontier in a week or so. I plan to use it for hunting a good bit this season!

I was really impressed with it. Two of us in there was right at 400 lbs, plus probably 40 lbs of gear, and it paddled and tracked well. We were in very shallow water (kayak paddles hitting bottom the whole time) and it didn't draw a deep draft either. Nice and stable, and a big flat top for hauling. I think I need to find a way to order one too.

I really enjoyed hunting from my kayak this season. It opens up a lot of possibilities.

All of my public land hunting this year will be based on access by water if I can get away with it. Hard to find good areas to do that but I've found a few. Scouting a spot next month that looks really good. A mile by boat will get me into an area that would take over 2.5 miles of walking.

All of mine too.

One of the biggest benefits is the ability to use the wind to your advantage.

I have to say morning hunts took some getting used to. Being on the water in a kayak before daylight is a different experience. I'm not really a duck hunter so this was pretty new to me.

Yeah there is definitely a bit of fear to overcome lol. I'm sure going through swamps in the dark is a different experience.

I would not trade my Nucanoe Frontier 12 for anything.... that is my #1 hybrid canoe for hunting. I also have a small 1 foot 44# kayak that I love for sneaking in and dragging across long stretches of land.

I ordered my Nucanoe from Tristate as mentioned above - great CS

Flinging,
Check out tri-state trolling motor website for nucanoe, specials and $69 nationwide shipping.

Thanks for the info. I'm actually ordering it through leoadventures. I can get them for 25% off which is pretty awesome! Ordering a camo Frontier 12 on Monday! I will check that out tho for sure.

I think if I ever bought a boat besides my Hobie Pro Angler, it would be the NuCanoe. The pedal drive is what makes the difference for me, but that NC sure is sweet.

The pedal drive couldn't have gotten us through the water we were in. We could have walked the yak in most spots with a tall pair of boots. Every paddle stroke hit bottom. Lots of the areas I'm going into are like that. VERRY shallow creeks, coves, and sloughs.

I hunt some spots like that as well...where the peddle drive does me no good. But I use the boat year round for fishing and scouting and for that I use the pedals 99% of the time. Hands free fishing is the bees knees.

Glad to see the NuCanoe is working for you. It's a super sweet setup. One of the cons for the Hobie is storage. The kayak can hold 600lbs so the weight isn't an issue. But the layout of the kayak doesn't lend itself to hauling deer and gear as easily as a NuCanoe. For hauling, the NuCanoe is definitely a better option.

In a perfect world, I would want a Nucanoe for hunting and a Hobie with the pedal drive for fishing. The hobies are like the Cadillac of fishing kayaks.

This is true. For fishing they can't be beat. It has worked incredibly well for hunting purposes thus far. But the will test will be next season when I load it down with a 200lb rutted-up swamp donkey.
