Boat buckle overcenter buckle (OCB, boatbuckle)

Just set it up and practice with it before you want to hunt to figure out what works. What I do is pull the strap through to tighten it up all the way, then I wiggle the buckle to loosen it a bit and then cam it over. If you try to cam it over with it tightened all the way you won't be able to do it.You need to find that spot where you're able to cam it over but still get it super tight. I am not using ameristeps right now because I have some other small aluminum steps that I like, but the boat buckle set up is my go to set up and nothing beats it IMO.

Thanks Red ! I appreciate it !

Is this right? OCB video

I recommend doing it different. Putting it on with a flat hook makes it so much easier because you don't have to thread it in the tree. Going back through the thread for something helpful, I hope this can help you

What buckle is this?

Check the link in post #74. I think if I was still using a ratchet strap and the OCB wasn’t an option I would have moved to a platform. This buckle rocks! If you don’t have a strap with a hook check out strapworks.

So here is what I have minus the hook, didn't realize you could get this with the hook pre-sewn in so you don't have to thread it every time. You can order it with the hook sewn on, then cut it off the buckle, put your steps on, and thread it once. Then you are good to go by just using the hook and adjusting the buckle. The only problem with this site is they don't have coated hooks. The buckle itself is high quality, it doesn't have any slop in the rivets like some of the other ones posted. I'll take some pics tonight when I get home. All together with shipping it should be under $15 to have a buckle and camo strap with a hook sewn on it.

Ordered one of these today with camo strap........thanks for posting link!

I was doing a little looking at the set ups, the only problem I am seeing is most of the 1" flat hooks only have a weight rating of 250 lbs. Any concerns on that.

Not really. A rating of 250 lbs means there minimum breaking strength is probably 2500 pounds. When we use them to strap on a platform the weight is getting distributed around the strap onto the tree so I htink in the use of a platform it is ok. They are what was used on the ameristeps out of the box and standard hooks on ratchet straps.

Has anyone tried this kind of strap on a predator style platform? My brother is making me a platform so I am looking for the easiest way to strap it to the tree....

Hey red,
So to create this system I need the buckle from Amazon, one 1" flat hook and some 1" webbing (~5-6')? Thanks

Amazon, boat buckle. I bought that one from amazon and returned it. I went with the whole setup from custom tiedown. The strap came with the hook already sewed on and the buckle is the same without the plastic piece. To me it didn’t seem worth to spend 20 on the buckle. Maybe I’m missing something but I’ve been in a tree a few times already and it seems good. The strap that came with my setup isn’t as stiff as the brown ameristep strap but not flimsy either. If I had more free time and a sewing machine I’d switch but for now I think I’m all set. Hope that helps.

I also couldn’t find the hook part separately. Went to Napa , someone suggested a link on here. They said they didn’t carry it anymore.
