Can you build a 1.3 pound stick

You had mentioned a rivet in the pass, is there one installed? Can you show a close up? Can’t tell if there’s one there.

I believe that’s an older pic where we were just testing the riveted on diy versa button. The rivet that is connected to the step an tubing is just to keep the steps from spinning. The steps in the picture above worked but they were slightly heavier though 1.4lb total stick weight. We pushed his step design to far by removing too much material and the step bent. Bad news is we did it to all the steps. Good news is the steps failed and not the rivets. We might try 1/8 that way we can leave more material on the bottom part of the steps.

I just ordered 8- 8" 1/16 thickness angle aluminum to make the steps. I hope they will be strong enough. I'd also be open to the idea of buying 8 steps from anyone if they have some machined ones, not sure what the imthere steps are or if they are for individual sale

I would try 1/8 first

Machined steps are super stable with one bolt. That is still my preference
I do have some 1/8 aluminium angle I am experimenting with

I’m waiting on my machinist to get his CNC up and running at the moment. I have tried several different machine shops locally they cannot touch his price.
I will let you guys know when he is back in business

How are you all planning to pack your fixed step sticks in? I got my hands on my first fixed step sticks last weekend and found the packability to be a potential concern.

Any insight as to the best way to maneuver through the bush?

I just us a shoulder sling and keep the sticks pointing forward. For now.

Folding steps all the way! ;)

I’m really starting to think there’s an advantage to it. I’d sacrifice a little weight if it made it easier to get through the bush. I see the fixed double steps having the potential to get hung up on a lot more stuff.

The hawk helium was my go to last year and it may be again this year. Or I stop being a whiner and put more time in with the stepps.

I wish my morals would go away so I could just say screw it and use spurs everywhere haha.

or just eliminate the bottom step. Shorter tubing and a step longer aider.....go aider directly to top step. cuts weight and packing issue

I ordered some 3/4” 6061
1/8” and 1/16” .
The 1/8” may work as a step but the 1/16” has a lot of flex. It will be stronger as 1” angle though.
