Cold Feet

I'm just south of Atlanta. It was around that same temperature Saturday morning and my feet were hurting. I've had a few people suggest merino wool. I'll be looking into it for sure. Thanks!!!

I'm north of you in the 575/75 merge area but hunt down in Jones Co and up in Banks Co.

Alpaca wool socks and boots that are not too tight and chemical toe warmers and a warm core. Then your toes will be warm
Wool socks are good even when it is warmer because your feet will be dry.
I hope you are not using cotton socks. If you are bare feet might be better

Jones County is supposed to be really good from what I hear. Isn't Banks up around Helen or Blueridge????

Well I've been hunting barefooted most of this season and decided I'd try some socks since it has gotten a bit colder:tearsofjoy:!!! I think I read something here recently about Alpaca. Are these comparable to merino???

Banks is NW of Athens and we kill some good deer in Jones.

This came off the Jones lease last year.

Alpaca is better than merino but merino is good though and probably good enough for Georgia.
Wet feet mean cold feet. Sweaty feet mean cold feet. Wool socks keep your feet dry. I wear light wool even in the summer in running shoes because your feet and shoes will not stink.
I have wore wool socks in a hot barn in the summer with rubber boots for 30 years and it is the only way to have dry comfortable feet/
As far as deer go if we smell foot odor deer will certainly smell it . That is why John E goes to great lengths trying to prevent foot odor from escaping from his boots as he walks in so the deer do not pick up that wonderful odor along his entrance trail .
Wear wool in Georgia even when it is 80 degrees.

Check out Chets winter boots #'s 17 & 49.
The guys at Burlington Northern/Santa Fe R&R wear these out on the tracks when it's cold. Theyre supposed to be good to -60°F. Salesman who I get my Red Wings through wears Irish Setter Wing Shooters (Un insulated) and the #49 that looks like a snowmobile boot over them and said his feet never get cold ice fishing or hunting.
And they weigh about as much as a running tennis shoe

Wiggy's lamalite socks have served me really well. I've had them for about three seasons and they are going strong. I wear a pair of the talls and then a pair of the short ones over top when it get s really cold. They are great to walk in. you slip them over your bare feet and they hold very little odor if any. And if it get stupid cold I just put a chemical toe warmer between the two liners and I'm in business.

Antiperspirant on your feet to keep them from sweating. Wool socks, unscented baby powered on top of sock and in boot, and insulated boots when needed.

That's my regiment but I don't hunt up north, we only see the temperature in the teens a few times a year.

I do that and it really made a difference

I’m an artificial heat guy. I wear nike dri fit socks uninsulated boots with a hot hands insole and toe warmers on top. Same with my clothes I wear relatively light clothes with hot hands in pockets and hot hands adhesives over kidneys
I will also add we only see teens a few times a year. Yesterday it was 20, today it’s 30 ish tomorrow it’s goin to be low teens and single digits Monday. I won’t change my set up much

Let us know how that turns out for you.

I have moderate neuropathy from Spina bifida myelomeningocele and I have done great with the Thermacell heated insoles with wireless remote. They are not WARM, they keep you from getting COLD. For someone like me who has less than adequate feeling they protect from frostbite and I never feel tortured. The neuropathy makes me way sensitive to cold.

I wonder how warm they get. You think as warm as hand warmers? Hand warmers don't make your feet feel warm either but they do keep you from crying "Uncle". I used them for the first time this year and never quit a hunt because of cold feet. I didn't do many long sits though this year in really cold weather, like -10. We had mild temps through most of the late season and when it got really cold I was limited to evening hunts.
My concern with the thermacel is that they are thick enough to make my boots tight.

I take the insoles out of my mucks. Then all is well. They do not get warm like hand warmers. The best way to test them is wear one and not the other and head out. U will feel it!!

About the coldest it gets in my neck of the woods is down in the lower teens. Muck Field blazers, spray on deodorant, wool socks, and an inside warmer get me through this temps no problem.

I saw a post today on another site where you take out your insoles and trace them onto one of those windshield covers, cut it out, put it in the boot and replace the insole.
