Cold weather clothing while hunting from a saddle

That vest with some bibs & good wool is great! Your a better man than me, once it gets below freezing w/ any wind I’m in my HBS. I just fidget too much & have to wrestle with myself to stay in the tree otherwise......

Yup works great. Never gave it a proper finish but will before it gets cold this year. You just need a spare bridge that has a carabiner on one side. All set up & then put on the suit & once you zip up to waist height just feed 2nd bridge through 2 slits on either side of zipper.

Right now it’s practical not tactical! Just 2 vertical slits for bridge. I’ll see if I can hop in front of the line of my wife’s mask making operation & get it finished up this week or next.

I use a IWOM. I use my saddle like a rock climbing harness far fall prevention, and go over top of the suit with either a fleece saddle or a sit drag. The iwom has a relief zipper that allows hookup.

I am curious why you wouldn't just use the saddle on the outside of the Iwom? Is it because you can't use the leg loops?

Two Grabber Adhesive body warmers, one over each kidney and a wind proof vest (found at goodwill, eBay, garage sale etc) under your main jacket can really keep you toasty and up your warmth factor. I also keep these in my pack just in case. Hunting in the Michigan Upper Peninsula where the snow never ends.

Buy the best (warmest boots) you can afford and bring a change of socks if needed.

Good question. I do it because I want to be hooked up at all times, and deploying a iwom in a tree on a small platform is a little difficult.

Just remember dry=warm. If you sweat a lot, pack any warmer gear in then put it on by the tree. I also use antiperspirant on my feet that helps a lot. For cold weather bow hunting I found that I can eliminate a layer with hand warmers placed in the right places. I slide 2 hand warmers in between my first and second layer on my lower back just above the belt and it helps keep my core and legs warm. Along with hand warmers either on my wrists or in a pocket to keep my hands warm I can eliminate the bulky outside layer and hunt into 30 degrees with the right base layers.

This! Hunting through November in Michigan gets chilly enough, when frozen sweat is part of the equation, it is unbearable.
I love the feeling of putting on new socks on stand so much that I started playing with different ways to wear a baselayer that I could remove while up a tree. By laying a t-shirt over my back (not putting it on) I could pull it out of my collar and all the sweat it soaked up. I am evolving this into a DIY pattern that has a nice neck gator and made from merino wool for this season. No matter how slow I walk, or light I layer... if I sweat, I freeze. By removing it entirely I had many warm days up a tree!

I might steal this idea. I am by no means in great shape and get sweaty in the first 1/4 mile walk with my gear...

Less is definitely more. Even for rifle season here in MN I've found that one quality base layer with my Gamehide heavy suit is warmer than a bunch of layers, especially when you leave the jacket and pants open on the walk in

Resurrecting thx thread. Anyone else wear your RC harness under your bibs and outer layer? I’m new to the RC from a HSS treestand harness. I was enjoying not having to deal with the tether coming off of my back, but now I’ve realized that some of my clothing is designed for that.

If I’m not using my saddle, and I wear under my bibs, I suppose I can just have my harness connect through my center zipper. And I will check to see if my LB loops align with my side zips. But as long as I’m not too much of the Michelin man, isn’t it easier to wear it all over the top?
