When you go high the whole intended angle of detection is changed. As the camera is designed for 36" high...ish.
It's pointing down and changing detection area.
I don't know the science/ math just an observation of pics.
I would guess there is an IR 'cone' that is emitted. Higher up means things only a certain distance from the cameras base would trigger as they walk into the wider portion of the 'cone'. When it's 36-48" high the cone is level, thus providing greater area for something to trigger it.
