DIY climbing platform

Did you have a target weight in mind? 8.5 is not what I would consider heavy for a climbing stand.
Not really I wanted it around 6 or 7 but I had to work with what I had. That made me put grids in certain places to avoid holes that were already in the billet from its original design.

Here is my take on similar concept. I was aiming for the extreme. Light, small, no metal for the tree locking mechanism. Platform is 12x12.

Wow, now that's some creative thinking. I like it. Have you climbed with it?
I have. Twice in the yard (tweaked tree bites after due to bending) and once on a hunt. It is not free of sketchiness, but I am in a saddle. I keep the tag end of the rope ties to my linesman loops. So I like being able to quickly tighten the hang line as the tree shrinks in diameter. It performs much better on a tulip poplar than an oak tree. Once I bite it into the tree it is pretty stable. But before that there is some slippage. I did not take the stirrups off all hunt because I was a bit nervous. LOL.

Very creative I love the idea of the cam cleats.
A couple of funny out takes. V1 folded like a bad poker hand and the timing belt stripped faster than a streaker. The second is my wife watching me use V2 for the first time. OP sorry for the hijack of your post. Yours looks much better!

Ok first impressions tons of room (maybe shorten a little bit..undecided) and not heavy at all. It is harder to hold yourself off the tree than I anticipated but doable (honestly I could lose a few lbs or 50). I need to sharpen the teeth a little bit for better bite on the tree. Currently still 3/4 thick same as the plate not the best bite. I think it'll be good. View attachment 79800View attachment 79801
If you milled down the inner grid to create a recess for a sheet of carbon fiber, you could probably take out some of the internal grid, decrease the weight and retain the strength.

Man, saw the pic of your wife and thought I had done something wrong.
