DIY Climbing Stick (1.5lb)

I've been thinking of a way to try and make an aider mate more cleanly with the bottom step. The trick would be doing it in such a way that it still folds and stacks nicely. I may play around with sewing a loop instead of tying one because the knots are fairly bulky and need to be moved to the side to stack.

What about inserting the aider loop inside the stick while the step and bracket are unbolted. Than just insert bolt through all. May need to make a plastic bushing up to replace the solid end cap.

I haven't decided to sell any yet because they take so long for me to make, it wouldn't be worth it unless I charged more than anyone would want to pay. If there's enough interest I could look into ordering components and making a bunch, but then there are additional liabilities. I don't have any testing on mine to know what weight limit they'd realistically have.

The camo pattern on the stick is from the new Stealth Strips "Strata" pattern. For the steps, I just used spray paint. Undoubtedly anodizing or cerakote would provide a better finish, but this will do for now.

Those turned out really great! I’m wondering if you would have any interest in making one extra double sided step? I’ve got the three step Lone Wolf sticks and am looking to make the top step a double sided step and using it as part of my platform set up. Please let me know if you would be interested in selling one. Thanks.

@bowhunter15 do you think the 1/16 wall t6 tube is gonna be enough? How much do you weigh? I'm about to build some and unsure if I should go 1/8 wall or if the 1/16 is plenty. I'm around 155-160 lbs

Not BH15 but 1/16 wall would be fine for your size IMHO mine flex a little but I haven't noticed any deformation in them

Almost finished with mine, waiting on Amsteel for straps and aiders. Reinforced mine and they are still under 2lbs each.

I'm wanting to make a set like this.
I'm wondering though if anyone has tried using a 12" length of 1" square tube as the steps, instead of machining aluminum bar.

I think it will be lighter, easier, and cheaper.

I'm having a friend prototype one tomorrow.

Is there a reason I havent seen anyone else do this?

I have some API sticks that are built this way. They are 2.8 lbs 32” long. 3 double steps.
