Dji Osmo mobile 2 auto tracking feature seems legit

Awesome, would be epic if you could put a 2-10 zoom lens on your phone and have it track a deer.

You can pull off a 2x zoom. There is a company that makes high quality lenses for phones called Moment. They have a 1x lens, and then add that to the 1x magnification of the telephoto lens on the iPhone Xs and you get 2x total magnification. That would put you at a 120mm focal length which isn’t bad at all.

The biggest drawback of the tracking feature is you must use the dji app and can’t use the camera zoom and tracking at same time. The workaround is the using a x2 moment or sirui lens. I mean you can still manually zoom and use the osmo without tracking and produce great footage. The filmic pro app is awesome because it allow you to choose the camera and lock camera options like focus, white balance, and aperture.

I find the zoom on my phone turns out grainier than just cropping in editing. I don't know why because it's doing the same thing in-phone. The moment lenses are the only thing that would make me want to get an iPhone. Have you tried tracking a deer through brush? If not, how about a dog going behind trees and obstacles?

No I haven’t, I’m sure it would lose track of the deer in heavy brush but you’d be able to easily get back on track manually then start tracking again in the open. It’s literally a finger swipe away. Most of my kill shots are in fairly open areas so don’t think it’d be an issue for me. I’m interested to see how it would do with multiple deer. The flexibility of this system is great because you can try auto track or revert to manual. I wish Sony would come out with a gimbal because their auto focus tracking is insane, they just need to pair with a gimbal.
