Any of you guys have one? Or have some opinions? I am considering getting one to access a huge public property by my house that is closed to motor vehicles.

I've been leaning towards the rambo 750. Sportsman guide has a pretty good price on a combo deal.

It would be awesome. Here in Tn they consider them motorized vehicles and illegal on public land

I have been doing a lot of research on this. I'm going to get one.

Let me recommend you look at the RadRover by Rad Power Bikes or the VoltBike Yukon 750. Both of these are 750 Watt motors which is the maximum allowed by federal law to be considered a non-motorized vehicle. Before you make a decision, make sure you look at what you're getting. The Rambo bikes are double the price and include the same basic setups and components. I'm 98% sold on the RadRover. The reviews are great and it's an incredible value.

From what I've researched, and by no means am I an expert, every state and land management entity (State land, National Forest, BLM, Wilderness areas) has different rules. Some classify all ebikes as motorized vehicles, while others defer to the federal standard of the 750 W motor regulation.

Good luck getting a straight forward, succinct, one-size-fits-all answer to this question.

I looked at the radrover. I liked the idea. With the accessory bundle and member pricing from sportsman's guide the rambo gets closer in price. For me (I break stuff) I liked the idea that rambo is made just down the street from me for warranty repairs. It also seemed like rambo had more accessories. I will have to look at the volt.

It's like asking what's the best broadhead......

Oh if I could count all the rage broadhead lost deer threads on the TexasBowhunter forum I’m on... I’m sure it’s a good broadhead, but it seems like 40-50% of the lost deer threads are rage.

Interesting. The prices were way off when I compared the RadRover and Rambo bikes. It was at least $1000 difference. Maybe I need to relook.

Perhaps those guys think the vitals are " bigger" because they hunt in Texas. A well placed blast from a bazooka is no more lethal than a well placed shot with a field tip. Tell those boys to practice more during the off season.

Yeah it was $1500 vs $2500 for black. (Then take 10% off for member price), but there were $340 in accessories included in the 2250, making it more like $1900 now that being said, with Cyber Monday, rad was cutting prices making them an even better deal.

Stole this from another forum.

There are clear and concise laws for both USFS and BLM.

=====
Forest Service:
File Code: 2300/2350/7700
Subject: Electric Bikes and Trail Management

The Forest Service’s Travel Management Rule (TMR) and E-Bikes:
The TMR defines “motor vehicle” as “any vehicle which is self-propelled, other than:
(1) a vehicle operated on rails; and
(2) any wheelchair or mobility device, including one that is battery-powered, that is designed solely for use by a mobility-impaired person for locomotion, and that is suitable for use in an indoor pedestrian area.”
36 CFR 212.1. E-bikes have a motor, thereby are self propelled, and are not covered by the exceptions in the definition.
Therefore, e-bikes are motor vehicles and are subject to regulation under the TMR, which requires designation of National Forest System (NFS) roads, NFS trails, and areas on NFS lands for motor vehicle use. 36 CFR 212.51(a).

Direction on e-bikes was included in a response in the Federal Register notice for the final over-snow vehicle rule.

The response states: “New technologies that merge bicycles and motors, such as e-bikes, are considered motor vehicles under §212.1 of the TMR.” 80 Fed. Reg. 4503 (Jan. 28, 2015).

BLM:

Information Bulletin No. 2015-060
From: Acting Assistant Director, Resources and Planning

An electronic bicycle, also known as an e-bike, is a bicycle with an integrated electric motor. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) classifies e-bikes as motorized vehicles, as defined at 43 CFR 8340.5 “(a) Off-road vehicle means any motorized vehicle capable of, or designed for, travel on or immediately over land, water, or other natural terrain, excluding: (1) any non-amphibious registered motorboat; (2) any military, fire, emergency, or law enforcement vehicle while being used for emergency purposes; (3) any vehicle whose use is expressly authorized by the authorized officer, or otherwise officially approved; (4) vehicles in official use; and (5) any combat or combat support vehicle when used in times of national defense emergencies.”

Thanks,

Thank you Boswell, the area I elk hunt falls under these rules. I have to assume though that if I leave the battery behind, I would still be able to pedal in. That way I don't have to own two bikes.

Bikes have to be non-motorized where I hunt so I will be forever a part of "The Petal Patrol"

I have very little knowledge on the topic but a good friend of mine is super into building them. You get what you pay for. For off road use a hub motor is going to break easily. I have been told to only consider mid drive bikes for any mountain bike or fat bike. They can be DIY for 50-80 percent cheaper. Spend the money on a good bike with a solid frame then shop around for motors. BBSHD bafang is a great option. There are some great forums and blogs to steer you in the right direction. I am planning a build on my non fat tire 29r
