Anyone have experience using an Equivocation Hitch for rappel rope retrieval? Looks interesting, but I haven't found any good video examples on vertical rappels like we do from trees. I'm curious how the angle of descent could impact the knot's effectiveness to both hold and release. I have struggled to get a quick and easy retrieval with delta link tether connection and zing-it pull-down technique. I usually have to get a few yards away from the tree base to get a good release angle and that's tough in thick timber sometimes.

I think I would deal with some thick cover before carrying 2+X's the amount of rope I needed to rappel.

I am not sure how you are setting up your pulldown rope. Don't try and pull the delta link, Pull the rappel rope through the delta link.

Even in the thick stuff there is always one side of the tree that is better than the others, so set your rope/link up before the rappel to land the clearest area and be mindful of which way you will peel the link off the tree when picking your landing area as well.

Or you could learn the JRB hitch, and have the simplest release you've ever experienced. But it does take practice and test at low levels. Once you can tie it with your eyes closed( not hard) you can use it for hunting. It is the best release method i know of for a traditional tether.

Keep retrieval line behind your link so when pulling your retrieval line is parallel to your climbing line. I can retrieve around branches no problem.

The JRB exploding hitch works really well and no need for retrieval rope. It is the best thing I took from JRB methods.
