Everything cam cleats

What did you use for hardware?

2.5" #10 stainless steel bolts with nylon nuts. I would prefer grade 8 but couldn't find any that size.

Thanks. What cam cleat is that? And rope?

It's not that amsteel won't work. But there are ropes that have an outer sheath that are designed for abrasion resistance.

That's the only knock against the Amsteel. And believe me, you'll never meet a bigger fan of Amsteel. I'm one of the first guys to use it on saddles. However, I avoid using it in scenarios where it will encounter a lot of abrasion.

There are a lot of guys that use it in those same scenarios and it holds up just fine. That's great. It's just not what I would choose. No big deal either way. HYOH - Hang your own hang.

Since you have a general hatred for Samson's Amsteel...what does "the man" use?

JK...no need for anyone to get their arses in the air!

That looks like a Schaffer cam cleat and amsteel rope.

I used 1/4" amsteel on this one.

Do you connect the rope through the cam cleat while the platform is up and then Lowe the platform to snug up the rope?

Exactly. And if it's still not tight enough, then stand on the post with one foot and lift the seat with the other the whole platform will slide down a touch then when you lower the seat, it will be even tighter.

What cleat is that? What's the max pressure it can take?

In case you haven't already looked it up, here's the info on The Ronstan C Cleat Medium size Ernie is showing. These are the same cleats I use on my sticks and they've been flawless. Super lightweight and bite that amsteel perfectly. I'm sure they would perform the same with other ropes as well.

Awesome, thanks.

In comparison, the Schaeffer cleat is 2.1 ounces, aluminum, and safe working load of 300 pounds.
Anybody know how those composite or carbon fiber cleats hold up in sub zero temps?

Yeah...I looked hard at the Schaffer and they're great cleats. You can't go wrong with either. I do like the improved WL of the Schaffer...that's why I used the Harken on my old Lone Wolf lock-ons. I could've easily ended up with Schaffer.

I used mine in -20 celsius with no problems this year. I was hunting with it not testing it, so I wasn't terribly hard on it or anything.

Finished modifying one Leverage stick with a cam cleat. I found that the stock stand offs didn't bite well enough no matter how tight I got the rope. So I ordered two XOP stand offs and mounted them to the stick. Only problem with the XOPs is they are 2 ounces heavier than the Leverage stand offs. So I added 4 ounces to make it "ideal". That said, I love the set up. WAY faster than the cam buckle, I like how far away the stand offs are from the tree, couple that with the angled steps of the leverage sticks it now has good separation from the tree. And they are rock solid with a cam cleat. Total weight is 2 pounds on the dot for a 17" stick. Not the lightest on the block but not terrible. I'm a little annoyed that the advertised weight was 1.75 pounds when in actuality they were 2.5.
Now, if I were to do all my sticks, that's $200 in mod costs. Uff dah. I could buy a set of Muddy Pros for less than that. I emailed Schaefer Marine to see if there is a quantity / price break on cam cleats to make it a little less painful. If I hear back I'll post on here and see if there is interest in doing a bulk order and pass the savings onto fellow saddlers.

This thread is fairly old, but thought I'd ask. Was there ever a consensus on hardware? I have a Harken 150. Drilled holes were 5mm (13/64") per the instructions. Not going to find a grade 8 that small, so was the consensus to just use stainless with a lock nut?

i used 5mmx60 with lock nuts. i do believe they are heavy hardened material. local hardware store

What grade?

All I can seem to find is just your run of the mill stainless bolts in a 5mm or 3/16".
Anyone else had any luck finding anything stronger? Source?

What little bit of research I've done, it doesn't look like there's really any other options.

If you take a grinder and make grooves in leverage standoffs they bite alot better. Mine are rock solid now.
