So, I really want to try packing out a deer this year. I just haven't made myself do it yet. A few years ago I purchased the f1 mainframe from eberlestock to help carry heavy loads(when carrying in a climber and necessary gear). Since swapping to a saddle it has been in the back of my closet. I picked it back up the other day just ot see how it does and remind myself why purchased it in the first place and wow. It's so comfortable with a significant amount of weight on it. I put a friend on the back of it who was around 175 pounds and I walked a couple laps around my yard. Yes, it was heavy, but it was also very manageable. This got me to thinking, my biggest current complaint about my pack situation is how my current pack doesn't have an internal frame, or a waste belt, the F1 has both. I was wondering if anyone has attached a pack to their f1 and make it a hybrid meat hauler. It would be similar to a popup 28 or so where I could stick the meat between the frame and the pack..

curious if anyone has ever tried this. I will try to get a few pics later this evening.

You’re in business. I’d just strap whatever normal pack or pouch you use to the frame, and ditch it somewhere along your access to the hunt. If you kill, it’s close by. If you don’t, you only have a short walk wjth your normal pack and gear to the hauler. Nothing to it! You don’t need anything customized. If I’m toting that big of a frame, I want whatever my stuff is in to have shoulder straps too so I can separate.

that is a good point.

I’ve got the F1 mainframe as well and love it. I have two Batwing packs and one of their dry bags. That system there should allow you to pack out the whole deer and your gear.

The dry bag zips into the frame as do the batwings. I pack in with the batwings attached, dry bag folded up and stuffed into one batwing along with kill kit. Other batwing had saddle and Ropes. Climbing method and platform are strapped on as well as extra layers. When Packing our deer I unzip the batwings and zip on the dry bag. Deer does in dry bag, batwings have loops to allow compression straps to go through, climbing method and platform strap on and out of the woods I go.

Have you or anyone else still using the f1 or m1 mainframe noticed or had little plastic pieces from the shoulder straps pushing through the grosgrain? I bought my m1 used and I thought there were a bunch of stickers in it because it was scratching my neck and arms. Turns out it’s plastic from the under material used on the straps. I pulled a bunch of them through but it turned out to be unsuccessful. I bought the pack relatively cheap because it was used and modded quite extensively, but I’m starting to feel like besides the fixes this annoyance is making it not worth fooling with and I should just eat the couple buck I had in buying it. The plastic doesn’t look like much but when it’s only sticking out .030 it scratches and irritates a bunch.E05BEA82-8E92-43E8-BF35-6AEED69ED231.jpegE0560D2E-0B43-454F-BEDF-DF0ACA5C8A8D.jpeg90AD751C-A11D-4B97-8C53-A60EAEC1733F.jpeg

I picked up a F1 and batwings with the same thought. When you say whole deer, do you mean just gutted? How big is that drybag? Or are you quartering and game bagging in the drybag?

Quartering and game bagging it. I guess you could gut it and take it for a piggyback ride tho lol

@KYHunter do you got a picture of your F1 setup that you could share? I still have this M1 carrier sitting around and I’m temping to get some batwings for it. Do you use the zipper connection for the batwings or molle? Thanks!

I’ll try to take a pic tonight if I think of it. The zippers are the way to go tho. When you zip in the big dry bag you can run the straps through the back side of the batwings and they ride on either side evenly.
I also have the spike camp duffel that zips in. I don’t have a use for it and if you’d be interested I’d be open to selling I think
