Favorite Turkey decoys?

I should’ve mentioned earlier, I usually have my dad & one of my kids with me on our first morning setup. Then we kinda split up & I cover ground & they camp out somewhere with dekes. So each person just grabs a bag with a decoy in it, I don’t deflate them all the way. You can just give them a few puffs when you’re setting up. So when we split up I just take one hen & my turkeyfan (check out their website www.turkeyfan.com) that combo is killer for many different gobbler scenarios. I just keep it on the back of my vest & pop it out if I make visual contact with birds. I know I said it earlier, but if you watch those videos, those guys are using it for cover in the woods. That scares me to death, great way to get shot in the face. But someplace that you can really see, at least you would get ambushed by a hunter that you don’t know is there..........
Thats kinda scary. Here in Pa we are not allowed to stalk spring turkey. One of the hunters in a whitetail archery program I hunt in was turkey hunting last spring and some idiot mistook him for a turkey and shot him in the chest . Thank God he was not kill but he spent awhile in the hospital with numerous pellets in him . This happen with out him using a fan . I would never use a fan because there are to many idiots out there. How can some one mistake a person for a turkey . I can see what you are saying about using it in the open but be careful and stay safe.

We were waiting out a torrential downpour under the corner of an old shed , we saw 5 longbeards about 300yds away in an open winter wheat field. They were slowly feeding, we waited until they got below a rise & sprinted about 1/2 way to cut the distance. I set up that fan & my son & I crouched behind it, my dad was prone to our right b/c he’s left handed. The rain let up & I cutt a few notes & they all hammered back & ran at us. They came in to our left and my son who was 14 at the time drilled him in the face at 20 steps! (That’s my Dad w/my son & his first turkey)

Avian X for me as well, normally just the hen, but sometimes the Tom and two hens (when I’m not going too far obviously).

Yes I think it would be. We are suppose to set up and call . It's shot gun and bow or crossbow only in the spring. In the fall it is ether sex and you can use a high power rifle in certain areas of Pa.

Nice turkey ang congratulations to your son. I agree to me that wouldn't be stocking but to Pa game commission it probably would be. Some laws I just don't understand.

The avian x decoys I have are extremely realistic, but I usually just carry one anymore cause they are quite bulky.

Yeah some I can’t figure, I’m guessing safety. Bc all there’s a lot of sound adding to the drama & adrenaline. Not sure but that’s my guess. It’s probably kind of a gray area, if you cut the birds off & then setup behind the dekes. Technically you’re calling them to a setup, but you did gain advantage by spotting them & maneuvering ahead.

Just getting into Turkeys. If I were to only have the budget for one decoy it sounds like the avian x is a pretty good option. Would you recommend a feeder or breeder hen?

I’m probably biased bc I’ve had great success w/ my avian x decoys. If I could buy one it would be the feeder. That posture almost looks like she’s ignoring the Tom & he’s more likely to close the distance. If you use the breeder you really need a jake w/her to add realism. I’ve yet to see a hen take that posture not in immediate presence of a strutter........

I use the Montana decoys Miss Purr-Fect and the jake. Both are a cloth material and spring out when you take the strap off. They weigh next to nothing and pack flat. I absolutely love them! They look real from a few feet away and worked great for me last year. You can see the hen in this pic

Breeder all the way . I hunt during the breeding season so this has been the best decoy along with a funky chicken. Great duo.
